Both feet complete!
🕑 Added 2017-05-27 08:46:06 +0000 UTC So tweaked and tested. Now running on dual Ninjaflex toothed belts (7mm width, 5mm pitch). This gives loads of torque and extra tension but won't be able to test in anger until I get the body assembled and some drive electronics. Think I'm going to get hold of a sabertooth controller to try it. I'll keep a log of the electronic journey but obviously there's loads of options on Astromech and the web. The drive is free and smooth, omniwheels seems to work well so overall fairly confident. The drive gears and belts are modular so if we hit any issues under load there's a few options but I'm hoping we won't have to! Exciting as we're close to movement! Foot shells next from a design perspective and battery boxes. Then all the greebles. Then onto the dome drive gear. Then we have a basic droid. In the future expect 2-3-2 mechanism, arm modules (motorized), lights. Servos and all that good stuff. All optional but compatible. It's a lot of work to get the basic droid, once complete customize should be easier. I've got a few custom domes which I'll release in the coming months :-) happy printing and Thank you especially to my Patreons without which the whole process would be much slower!

Still looking at the dome motor. Won't be using the same motor as it's not got anywhere near the same load.
Will you be using the same motor for the dome? Would like to buy them all at once if possible. Thanks

Give it a test. I haven't much experience with PLA, sorry. But I understand it's easy to glue. My main concern would be on its flex under stress if you're going for a mobile droid (ankles and legs mainly. )
Went ahead and order a spool. I'll see how strong it feels once I get started here. :)
I was looking at using eSun PLA+ for most of this. Do you think that would hold up well enough or should I look at going with abs?

I would estimate around 20 - 25 kg, mainly ABS with a little Ninjaflex and nylon (well under a reel).
These look great! I'm excited to get started printing here soon. I've had my printer for almost two years but it's gotten little use except for upgrades to the printer and a few small one off prints. Excited to take on a larger project and I've been planning to build an R2 for years so this fits perfectly. I'm curious if you have any kind of estimate on the amount of plastic printing everything that's already been created would take. I'm sure you've been through a ton prototyping everything, but I'm just curious as to maybe a weight of your current set up in just plastic. Thanks for sharing everything! Hop to get started soon and start sharing my progress.
Well, everything looks beautiful...! Except for my belt that keeps running out of the motor and drive wheels.. it seems that my attempts to print with flex was no good.. the teeth does not fit securely. So I'll try to buy some belt to see if fits.. any sugestion??
