I still find it weird how they put all of us in one class for homeroom, ignoring our age completely. I mean, from what I know only I, Megumin and Rudeus are first years, and yet there are more people here.
Megumin shrugs. "Honestly, I would have preferred if it was even emptier... Like... If it was just the two of us." The world's greatest angel is now blushing, embarassed at her commemt. Oops, I shouldn't be calling her that, I have a girlfriend after all.
But I nod nonetheless. "Yeah, that would be nice." It certainly would be harder for me to embarrass myself. I guess I'm just gonna stay quiet and pretend I understand what the hell the teacher is talking about.
Before Megumin can respond, we are interrupted. "Fresh meat, nyah...!" The girl who has just said those words is of the beast race, it seems she got up to greet us. She's actually pretty cute, with short hair and... massive... you know what. Can't compare to Eris though.
The girl by her side sighs, she too is a beastgirl, though she has longer hair, and... she's carrying a piece of meat? "Linia... Don't say it like that, it makes you sound like a pervert." Thanks for saying that! I was scared for a moment.
Still, I should probably introduce myself to those two... while avoiding their eyes of course. "Um... It's a pleasure to meet you two, I'm Subaru Natsuki." For some reason I have a bad feeling about this...

The short haired girl snorts. "I see, nyah." Megumin pouts, it's clear she's offended by her reactions. "The name's Linia Dedoldia." She points at the long haired girl. "And this is Pursena Adoldia, nyah." Got it, but must you really do the nyah thing?
The girl who's munching on a piece of meat grin. "Anyways, introductions are now over. Please know your places, those places being beneath us of course, and we will have no trouble." She says all of that ridiculous stuff in a monotone tone of voice.
The short haired girl nods. "Yep, nyah. Now let's start by you two handing us some pocket money, kay? Nyah." I have no money though. For a guy who's supposed loved by a goddess of fortune, I'm surprisingly broke.
But that doesn't matter right now, this situation is way too dumb. I actually have to hold back laughter. "Standard fantasy school bullies...!" I guess Eris is right now, I really am being bullied.
I don't want to compare this world to a normal isekai, mostly because I got killed and I have no talent, but this really feels like one of those situations. Should I be expecting a terrorist attack too...? Either way, I should start to carry a sword, even if I'm a beginner.
Linia's eye twitches. "What kind of reaction is that...? Don't get too cocky just because you sent Badigadi packing, our boss did that too." So you two do know me... And who the hell is your boss? Rudeus? I should have figured he would be friends with bullies.
Megumin steps forth, she's actually now standing protectively over me. I imagine our talk about me being a NEET is still in her head. "It's the appropriate reaction to the foolishness of you two! Fools who do not recognize the abyss!" You sound super bullyiable right now.
I do appreciate the support of course, even if these girls are way too funny to trigger any social anxiety in me. In fact, they're actually making me calmer, since they sound so corny with their threats.
Linia grins. "Well, if ya think you're such hot shit, I guess we can fight to settle the matter, nyah. Two on two... ain't that right Pursena...?" She tries to look at her friend, the key word is tries, because she's no there anymore.
Instead she's sitting down on her seat. "Do not get me involved in this. I didn't know this was the guy who took down Badigadi." So you do have some survival instinct. I guess you have now evolved above your friend in the generic bully scale.
Linia scowls. "You...! You're always leaving me in messes like this!" To that, Pursena only shrugs. In her defense this was a mess you two made, it's just that she knew when to back down. Or at least she thinks she does...
The truth is if this comes to a duel we are screwed. There's no way I'm good enough to hold two magically trained people down with my swordsmanship skills. Megumin is stronger than me of course, but her win, means the end of the Academy. Explosion Magic is scary.
Thankfully, as the beast girl and Megumin glare at each other, a voice cuts through the tension. "Hey Linia, cut it out!" It's a voice I recognize at that, it comes from one Rudeus Greyrat.
He's sitting down besides another man, one who wears glasses and has a bowl cut. And to Rudeus' other side is... Nanahoshi, and without her mask at that. She's worryingly pulling on the sleeve of surprisingly helpfulmire.
The short haires girl pouts, and looks back at the Quagmire. "But boss...! These two look so pitiful...!" As expected, Rudeus is her boss. Can this guy get any worse? Next thing you know he's gonna be kidnapping people or something.
Megumin's eye twitches, and starts muttering to herself. "What looks pitiful about me...? I'm the coolest mage to ever exist...!" Sadly not everyone in this world has an eye for true beauty, or an ear in this case. I want to marry your voice.
I nod. "Don't worry, it's just that some fools can't appreciate your blinding glory Megumin-Tan." I must remind myself that I already have a girlfriend who I love. Also that Megumin is younger than me...
Which is why I ignore the blushing mage and instead simply listen to Rudeus speaking. "I don't care how these two look. First of all, if you're an enemy of the Crimson Demons you're my enemy." At least you have enough decency to acknowledge the superiority of their angelic chuuni race.
As Linia trembles in fear, Scarymire continues. "Secondly... if you're an enemy of Subaru Natsuki, you're an enemy of Eris Greyrat, and that woman would lend the craziest fatality imaginable on you for bullying someone she likes, much less someone she loves." Don't drop references like that out of nowhere!
Linia gasps. "What do you mean by fatality!? That sounds way too scary...!" To be honest Eris is more of the type that would lend a brutality. But like... the ones from the classic games, where she beats you up so much that you explode.
Suddenly a black haired boy interjects. "Shut up already...! This is a place of study, not a place for you to pick fights!" Well, class has technically not started yet... I won't say those thoughts out loud of course, I'm not an idiot.
The beast girl sighs. "Tsk, whatever." She then glares at me and Megumin. "This isn't over..." And she walks to her sit, right besides Pursena. It's clear that this is totally over, but I'll let her have the last word.
Megumin however, giggles. "As expected, my genius charisma has solved the situation...!" Yeah, that's definitely what happened! If this angel says something, then it surely must be truth after all.
Still, now that we are free, Rudeus awkwardly waves at me. "Hey... come sit here. Or don't. I don't care either way." Well, I guess I don't mind sitting to the side of Nanahoshi, even if that means sitting close to you.
I sigh. "Sure." Then I look at MMT. "Let's go." She nods and begins following me. It seems I already have a friend group... Nah, I'll never ever count Rudeus as a friend! I'd rather die than do that!
As Megumin and I sit down, I wave to Nanahoshi, Rudeus and... "Hey, nice to mee you...?" I never met this glasses wearing guy before, but well... he is a guy. So at least I can look at him in the eye.
Or maybe I shouldn't get too cocky, Chomusuke is my soulmate after all, so clearly this whole destined love thing doesn't care about how I actually feel. I apologize to all cats in the universe by the way.
He pushes his glasses up. "Hello, it is indeed pleasant to meet you two! Subaru Natsuki and Megumin, yes?" Both of us nod. "I am Zanoba Shirone, the third, albeit exiled, prince of the Shirone Kingdom!" More royalty huh...?
To be honest this guy doesn't have the sheer aura that Ariel has. When I look at him the word prince definitely doesn't come to mind... It's mean to think this, but the word that does is otaku for some reason.
Rudeus smiles... towards Megumin of course. He's avoiding looking at me. "Anyways, since we are introducing you two to everyone..." He motions to the black haired boy that had spoken up earlier. "That's Clif-" But before he can finish, he gets cut off.
The black haired boy has cleared his throat to get our attention. "My name is Cliff Grimoire. It's nice to meet you, but please be silent when classes start." I nod towards him, he seems nice enough.
Rudeus smiles. "Don't worry if he comes off as rude, he's just pissy that his slutty elf girlfriend is actually attending her classes instead of spending time with him." Don't say dangerous words like slutty elf. My heart can't take it... also, it's really mean.
Cliff actually hits his table. "Quagmire, watch your mouth." To that Rudeus simply grins and shrugs it off. To be honest, it's strange, but I actually feel like the bastard reincarnator really didn't mean to offend with his comment.
Honestly, I really don't know how to feel about Rudeus. I used to be filled with guilt whenever I thought about him, but all of that disappeared pretty quickly once I stopped being in denial about his true origins. That said, what I also can't deny is that he's apparently super strong, I shouldn't make an enemy of him.
Well, it he doesn't consider me an enemy already, I did cuck him after all. "Rudeus... thanks for the save earlier." He did put a stop to the bullying arc of my life. And also to the destruction of this school, because I repeat... Explosion Magic is scary.
He scowls. "Don't thank me, I only helped because Nanahoshi was bothering me." He motions to the silent Banana. I guess that explains why she was holding his sleeve earlier.
Then I guess I better thank her instead. "Look at that Nanahoshi, the world really does take crazy turns... Who would have guessed that you of all people would have saved me from bullying?" Should I change my name to Ugly Gobbo?
She pouts, a red blush on her face. "Shut up, don't even talk with me if it's just to be a tease." She slowly looks down. "But yes, it was a bit funny... I guess." At least Linia didn't throw my Gameboy into a river.
Rudeus raises an eyebrow. "So what is this about anyways...? Actually, now that I think about it... When I first saw you two together, it was in a very compromising position." Ah, right. It was that time were you left while barely saying a word.
Megumin makes a shocked face. "N-no way...! Please remember that you have a girlfriend Purge King!" We weren't doing it! "And if you're gonna forget that, please remember that there are other, better women single and available!" What's that supposed to mean!?
Well, it's obvious what she means, and Rudeus' eyes twitches immediately, he begins to mutter. "This... some bastards deserve horrible fates." Yeah, like you! And I wouldn't cheat on Eris, not even with MMT!
Nanahoshi begins to sputter. "I-I...! I wasn't doing anything of that nature with Subaru! You just arrived at a weird time Rudeus! I mean, Subaru and I have had multiple lessons together at this point, and nothing weird has happened!" A miracle really, considering Aqua and Lalatina were present for them.
Zanoba smiles. "Oh? You were having private lessons with him... How surprising. And I can't help, but notice that his first day is also the first day where you appear without a mask... Actually even you appearing is strange at all." I'm certainly thankful for her showing up though.
I imagine I would feel a lot more anxious if she wasn't here, but this calm atmosphere that we are currently experiencing... Let's just say it's nothing like the empty feeling in my gut I would always get during school hours.

It Megumin basically ripped me out with full force from the claws of NEEThood, the goddess has been slowly removing Nanahoshi from it. It makes me wonder whether the Banana would call the Priestess her best friend.
Rudeus laughs, the creep actually has a very pleasant one, the type tone that makes women swoon. "I'm glad you did Nanahoshi, you're way too pretty to keep your face hidden." Are you aiming for the Banana? I do agree with you of course, but know your place.
Nanahoshi's face goes green. "Thanks... maybe I should start wearing the mask again." That was way too mean, even I felt bad about it! It actually reminds me of how Eris acted towards him, but this time I have no fingers in this pie. Ugly Hobgobbo isn't my soulmate after all.
Rudeus sighs. "Geez, I didn't mean anything by that comment, so please continue without a mask." I can tell he is telling the truth by his tone of voice. It feels like Rudeus is a bad liar... Well, he does keep making references people don't understand, so he really isn't trying to hide anything.
Nanahoshi nods. "Sure, I will." It's for her own good anyways. It's like Aqua said, as she is acknowledged by the world, her time issue will slowly be fixed. "Anyways, I actually have a reason to hate Subaru, since he was my bully when we were younger..." Ah, she really said it!
I immediately hide my face out of shame. "Yeah... Sorry again for that Nanahoshi." Now everyone is looking at me with surprise in their faces... Except for Zanoba, I don't think he carries too much.
Nanahoshi sends me a smile. "It's fine, you changed for the better in every way." No, I didn't. Trust me. "You're not someone who hurts people for his own benefit anymore." I was rude to Darkness just this morning, because I was annoying. "And you've been working hard... you grew up to be cool. People were right when they said a son of Kenichi Natsuki couldn't be bad." I...!
Immediately my face becomes red, but an ugly feeling has risen up on my stomach. I... should be happy someone is saying I match up to dad, shouldn't I? But for some reason her comment actually really hurt.
Rudeus looks like he wants to die. "He was your bully... and you're still...?" And then a sudden realization appears in his mind. "Oh, okay, I get it. He's Paul. This is the Paul effect." Who the hell is Paul?
I look down, to be honest, I'm feeling kind of bad now, but Megumin interjects. "I'm surprised Subaru was a bully back then." Right, she just heard a story about me being a NEET, so this must come off as a shock.
Nanahoshi nods. "It was a long time ago, we were really young kids... And eventually we didn't even see each other. I don't even know what high school he attended..." She then sighs. "Not that you know what a high school is..." At least Rudeus knows.
This is bringing me bad memories, so I look at Megumin's cute face. "Megumin-Tan is the cutest." Those words came out naturally, since my brain is naturally trying to recharge their batteries through her adorableness.
She blushes bright red. "W-where did that come from!? Send me a three days warning before you say stuff like that!" There you go, I can feel my happiness returning. Once I go back home, I'll make Eris blush a lot too, so I can have my full power back.
Suddenly Nanahoshi spats. "Playboy. Scum. This how you get girls? You just randomly throw out lines like a shitty pick up artist?" The difference is that it works when I do it! That's the power of soulmates...!

Now however, both MMT and Ugly Gobno are glaring at me, an expression of hatred in their eyes. By trying to play both factions, I lost both of their support... Which is probably a sign of how things will go with Eris if I don't stop flirting with other girls.
Nanahoshi's eye twitches. "You're the type of guy father's warn their daughters about." Sadly, I don't have a motorcycle, and considering the technology of this world, I never will... I could probably at least try making modern stuff eventually though.
Megumin scoffs. "Purge King... more like... more like... Lame King." As expected, your roast has burned me down to my very soul. Please forgive me my goddess! I'll seriously die if you don't...!
Rudeus frowns. "This... I'll never forgive Paul. I can definitely see him, Zenith and Lilia acting just like this in a closed room." I still don't know who that is... "Whatever, I don't have time to worry about playboy's... soon my goddess will arrive!" As long as she isn't as bad as Aqua, also context.
Zanoba interjects. "My apologies Master, but I must warn you... I doubt your letter has even reached your teacher yet. It will probably take a few months... And then it will take her another few months to arrive..." So this goddess is his teacher?
Rudeus nods. "That's true... But her presence is important. I paid a pretty penny for it you know? The letter is gonna be delivered by Earth Dragons." He then pouts. "Well, she probably hasn't received it yet though... But when she does, everything will change! In a few business days... and months." Travel sure is inconvenient.
He grins in my direction. "And then... I'll find happiness, and not even you will be able to stop me!" I'm not trying to stop you though! As long as you are not trying to manipulate children of course.
The bell rings, I wouldn't say my fear of it has disappeared, but it has definitely become lesser.

Thanks for the chapter, I really enjoyed reading it. Btw the distance between paragraphs is too big, maybe you should backspace it or something. Also, I think that you should put a link to your patreon after each chapter in author's note. A lot of QQ writers do it, but you just mentioned patreon once and didn't even provide a link man. It's ok to do it, just write something like "Btw I have a Patreon(hyperlink)" at the end of each chapter's author's note. It's just my opinion though, but it definetely won't hurt
