GRIM NORTH! - My first supernatural world
🕑 Added 2024-04-12 12:59:25 +0000 UTCI spent the last week working on a custom map. This map presented challenges I had never experienced before! The initial proposal was the construction of a dark world, full of dry trees and graves, a home for supernatural beings. I made a counterproposal, bringing a more sophisticated and elegant touch to these mystical creatures. After all, if vampires live forever, they have enough wealth to live well. Witches can enchant everything, so why wouldn't they live in comfort?
With the approved idea, I started working on the map. It took 4 iterations until we reached the ideal result. Check out the process:
From there, I began to distribute the streets and shape the terrain.
Then I added a lot and started building to set the tone of the neighborhood, and afterwards, I created terrain paintings and custom vegetation replacements for the neighborhood. From there on, it was just focus and hard work.
This was the first draft. However, it seemed too modern for a region like this. So I made some changes:
And I changed it to this:
To reduce the amount of CC used, I explored the variety of wall panels the game offers. There are many new and different options I had never worked with before, which provide deep, meaningful, and historical visuals for the buildings. Ensuring that each house tells its own story while also correlating with the rest of the city.
To tell stories, you need details, and for that, density on the screen is necessary. For this reason, vegetation was spread around the map to complement the look of the buildings. It's almost impossible to see where the lot begins and the neighborhood ends, which allows for more immersive gameplay and visually stunning experiences.
But there was one more crucial point. The neighborhood needed to convey a sense of suspense/terror/emptiness/quietness. At night, the atmosphere that was once charming and inviting becomes mysterious and chilling.
We have a few streetlights scattered throughout the map, but they are few. Supernatural beings love the darkness!
