Noah

Figured Adom would ask the alchemy girl to join the team. She was top of her class and seemed to know a lot, right?

Gopard

Thanks for the chapter! Adom literally has dimensional storage and an impossible to beat Golem... They could've asked Ibery as a Healer and taken Eren along for the fourth spot... I mean did he never go into dungeons? I understand whats happening in theory but does Adom not actually see the pretty easy solution to his problems? Lets set aside the fact that in a D-rank dungeon he KNOWS he alone is capable of dealing with any threat and setting up wards for camp and can bring infinite supplies in his storage so the only "issue" would be finding and hunting the high contribution Monsters... They don't even NEED a healer... Adom has stupidly strong Parents and infinite Money he could easily bring 100 very strong health potions and just say "My mother gave me this when I left for Arkhos I guess she and father knew some of what was coming" and thats it. It would even be believable that they didn't bother telling Adom details because they have shown utter disregard for common sense where "Adom and his adventures" are concerned... I just actually can't figure out if Adom doesn't realize every "problem" here is something he solved aproximately 500x times while dealing with a star knight, crown Prince, Vampire, world war plot and one of the strongest Criminal organizations of the Empire...? Or does he realize and is just trying to find a solution that "makes sense" for a student? Because if so then why? Never mind the papers the Academy DEFINITELY knows he is a fluid using battlemage at least at B-rank in pure fighting strength and that his Golem is similarly strong... Pretending for them won't matter I doubt Crowley wasn't told exactly what the Magisterium Mages saw since he's the one teaching Adom (who surely just tipped of every alarm bell of "potential future Archmage detected"...) Same goes for Eren btw. He did his mana supression Stunt literally right outside the Council Chambers. I do not think you mean to write this in a way as if not every single Mage in that Meeting knows that some student connected to Adom has absurd Mana capacity. Basically I have nothing against this chapter in principle as long as either Adom knows he could solve these issues (and maybe reveals it later) but wants to lay low a bit or doesn't realize bc the whole guilt for his saving of the country short term causing the reinstitution of Child Soldiers has him under the weather... Both are completely fine. I just hope this isn't one of those situation where everyone and their mother knows the kid Mc is at the very least an extremely capable mage much stronger and with more resources than most old battlemages but somehow thinks he desperately needs a team with pre set roles like everyone else for this Exam^^ BC I think this comes back to my "complaints" under the last chappy of book 1 with the final battle. As long as you put that kind of Arc first... You cannot have Adom struggle with "mundane" problems because of either "lacking skills or resources". Especially if we consider that his biggest weekness of below average physical Fitness has been fixed through a training montage. When we got that whole monologue about "quickly obtaining the License to travel to Silverlake and use the Order better and become an archmage" I was then expecting considerations like "How do I get our team to B rank without ruining the whole learning experience for Sam and making my skills quite as obvious".

BenjiVoid

I could see him, in his original lecture, saying "you need to form groups of 4, they don't have to be from the school, other subjects are also doing this. Btw when forming a team you'd probably want these roles and when packing you probably want at least these things"

Nattor

No Veteran-adventurers. He’s applying too

Ace_the_owl

It's actually veteran adventurer. Which I realize I did not specify. Which means i gotta change that. Thanks for pointing it out!

Ace_the_owl

Ah, I got a bit mied up there, thanks for the heads up! Gonna fix that tonight

Ace_the_owl

No worries, I appreciate the feedback, Aaron. The students would agree with you about the unfairness of it all lol, and even Crowley is not alligning with it. But he did not go into detail. There's actually more going on here than just the school making arbitrary rules. The recent incident with the prince has stirred up some political changes that are affecting how magic users are being regulated. These new requirements aren't even coming from Merris or Sir Gaius. The school does help their students where they can, they provide gear once teams are formed (Spoiler). And about the individual testing, the guild actually trusts the school's assessment of their third-year students' magical abilities. That's why they focus on team performance instead. I probably should have made it clearer, but a lot of what seems convoluted right now is setting up for bigger revelations about what's happening in the Empire. We'll get to see other perspectives that help explain why things are changing this way.

Dakota Sherry

Doesn't the new healer for the team run a foul of the no veteran rule for the team? He literally listed his military service record when he introduced himself, now he is not in the military any more. That makes him a veteran.

Aaron Johnson

I'm really enjoying the book so don't take this badly. What is up with the school requiring guild membership and the guild requiring groups for testing? I see that you want Adom to form a group but having the school require the battle mages to get a license is a stretch. The school not helping get students get in is surprising, them requiring all 3rd year students to join and not having class until they do is insane! Adding to that you have the guild not testing individual members so that can then join teams but they need a team to be tested by tossing them in a dungeon without oversight and see if they come out? Oh and if you don't make it in 7 days your out of luck but don't worry you get bonus ranks if you bring out enough goodies. So if you want to just sweep this under the rug it's fine but it's a bit convoluted.

BenjiVoid

Their argument about when to start doesn't make sense. Adom suggests "tomorrow morning", sam complains about it, adom starts justifying it, sam interupts him and says "tomorrow morning", and adom says "fine, tomorrow morning", which was his original proposal, but it sounds like he's conceding.

Next chapter, things will get more heated with our first voluntary dungeon dive. Thank you guys for reading!
