"With each jump, the crystals would swap positions - the destination crystal taking the place where the traveler had jumped from. In badly harmonized pairs, the destination crystal might even materialize at random locations within the resonance perimeter." So, let's say I'm at the park and I have a crystal and there's another crystal at my house that I want to jump to. I use the crystal I have to poof myself to my house. Now my house crystal is sitting in the field in the park, and anybody who wants to can pick it up and walk away with it? Like...how is this worthwhile for anything other than regular fixed destination travel, where one crystal is secured at point A and one is secured at point B, perhaps with an attendant? Are there just crystals laying around randomly and nobody thinks anything of it? What if someone puts my crystal in a small metal box, do I teleport into the box (or partially into the box, aka death, since there's not enough space in the box for me?). What is someone picks up the newly arrived crystal and uses it, then poof I'm back where I started and they're at my house and I'm in park again by surprise? This seems really weird and impractical. "The word escaped him as the golem lifted the entire bed one-handed, as easily as if it were made of paper." This would break the bed frame, 100%, it would split in half while he was lifting it. Bed frames are not that sturdy in this way. His bed frame is now in multiple broken pieces and the golem is holding a section of it. I wholeheartedly hated the entire crystal teleportation and golem stuff in this chapter, and wish it had never happened. Suddenly there's no more growth, no more MC having to figure out how to take on challenges and develop, now there's just ta da superpowered non-replicatable golem from the height of magic that is so amazing that nobody has ever heard of anything this awesome much less imagined that it was even possible, and he can put his conciousness in it and act perfectly with skill and balance like he was always a 6 foot tall metal golem mage-warrior and teleport it to anywhere he wants, even from his non-space inventory of perfect safety where he can keep this big solid supergolem that just poofs into existance with a thought. This ruins the story. Terrible.

Hellnhavoc

Here’s my question. The golem is supposed to be powerful right. But this dude is like lol not worried. Having a dude this powerful makes me wonder how our Mc is going to be taking on countless bad guys. One random guy not even counting the one random vampire are considered suicide.

BlaueFeder

the way he killed Cico's men already proved him to be a maniac.

Chaz Baz

I call bullshit on punching people out! It's immersion breaking in how unrealistic it is. Use MAGIC or chemistry or kill them. Hitting someone on the head may daze/knock out or kill. No way to know. Other than that, great chapter

Ace_the_owl

Thanks for reading! That one was all you guys lol. The feedbacks were quite helpful

Ace_the_owl

Thanks for the feedbacks :)

EsZeus

Uhhhh, so much better! 🤗👍 Now it feels planned, calculated and in line with what you would expect. You don't need to always have surprises and "bad luck" moments, but giving the MC a chance to show his skills and expertise is much better! Nice

EsZeus

Because hes a Maniac maybe. Or loves the thrill of a good hunt/fight. Many reasons. Psycho maybe, too

Storyflower

Definitely an improvement with the test jumps also reconnecting the story to the beach. I don't see why Gale still smiles though while he failed protecting the shipment and can have no clue who attacked them how. Can he even survive those tears exploding (shattering?)?

Gopard

Thanks for the chapter! Well I don't know exactly what changes were made but this new version of the chapter, read really nicely, had a great flow and consistency I felt.

Eldar Zecore

Thanks for the chapter! After looking at the other comments it looks like you really cleaned up this chapter, cause I’m not really seeing any issues they mention

Luckbox

Do you not think they will be back later in the story? I feel like it kinda expands the world and brings in a number of supplemental characters. You can't logically expect them to be around all the time when he has a life. I think it's reasonable to expect check-ins with certain characters throughout though.

Ace_the_owl

Just updated the chapter. I have brought a few modifications to the encounter, to better flesh out the following chapters. For example, the golem doesn't lose its arm anymore, and because of that, I will be going a different way from what I originally planned i my drafts, a better way, I think. I hope this version makes more sense!

Richard Davis

Hm, okay. I understand the point of several other posts here.. that the MC did not exhibit the preparation we’d expect from an experienced 79 year old mage. With that said, I didn’t personally have a problem with the pacing, whether in this chapter or in the others (such as with respect to short stints with ‘Bob’ or Morgana). Those felt like complete intro plot arts to me, and Ieft me expecting to see more of both characters in the future. But yeah. Seems like he would have tested the ability to jump around precisely with his golem. Plus made a plan on how/when to bail. (Couldn’t he have bailed after destroying 4 of 5?) And would have considered in advance the danger of sending into enemy contact something traceable to himself. If we readers think of this in a 10 minute read, it seems that Adom would have considered it in the 24-hours+ he had to plan the attack. But again.. none of that impacted my enjoyment of the story. I have personally enjoyed the frequently high stakes, high octane action of the story and the introduction to a number of likable characters (Mia, Morgana, Bob, Biggins) who each have their time in the spotlight.

Ace_the_owl

Yes, exactly. I intend to change a bit of the chapter, to make it more in line with is character, but the ending will remain the same, with Gale smiling at the Golem as it jumps.

Uroš

The ending as in the golem's arm being left behind and Gale smiling at Adom?

lenkite

Don't understand why is he being so dumb. He would have been better off as a teenager that got memories from the future instead of a 70+ year old guy sent back.

Ace_the_owl

Ah, I think I might have not written the last part clearly enough. The Golem is not lost, Adom made it jump to him, but it lost an arm. And I totally agree with you guys, i wanted to ask about the pacing at some point, and i got your feedback now. I'll be editing this chapter today, and will also add a few chapters to balance the pacing a bit more. As always, thanks for the feedback, applying it now :)

Storyflower

I concur with some of the other comments here. While I like some good pacing over tedious explanatory, cultivation whatever stuff that does not really impact the story, here the information tumbles over itself, which is a pity. Leprechaun. Introduced, gone a few chapters later. Cat/Puma. Introduced, gone a few chapters later. Golem, intelligently crafted, gone a few chapters later. For good it seems. The latter is also killing of Adom's possibilities to fight on an equal footing. But I guess that will change again in the next chapter or so. Maybe he can get the other Golem or is his stash now compromised as well?

Ace_the_owl

That's some really good feedback guys, thanks. I'll edit this chapter right away. The ending will be the same, as it serves a purpose, but now I can see what's not working in it. Thanks again!

Steve B

Great chapter... unlike some others.... I'm loving the pacing and action packed chapters.

BlaueFeder

My thoughts exactly. The golem should not have been sacrificed this early.

Uroš

I am enjoying this story so far, but as others have mentioned, I also think it's too high-strung. Too many things to take care of all at once. We're jumping in from one crisis to the next. At least the cat's curse got resolved. There's at least 6 other things happening at once and they all feel like they have to be resolved right now.

Bartosz Uramowski

I also think this whole chapter is a mess. Totally not a vibe I would expect from experienced person.

M van Dongen

This feels wrong. No testing of his concept. Is MC a teenager or a crafty old mage that had to think through his problems dueto his bodily fragility ?

EsZeus

I also find it weird. The golem should be more important. And leaving behind the arm is the worst possible outcome. So far, the writing and story telling is excellent! But I highly dislike the permanent stress and jump from one important situation to the next. There is just not enough breathing room in the story, yet. And while the MC is so smart, he is also way too... Sudden sometimes. Not calculated as he is portrayed. Let's take the golem situation now. He messed it up. Instead of testing things beforehand, he does something experimental and then jumps right into the operation. WHY? this is the opposite of smart. Of calculating and thoughtful. It's just a mess. A teenager would do this. Not a smart person who lived 70+ years as a scholarly person :) Sometimes his character is a little bit out of place. Why was this done without more preparation? Time limit, okay. But then he would have thought about it, too. The way he just jumps in, risks the whole operation, and then JUMPS in AGAIN after he already failed to be silent? Then, he makes more dumb decisions. Instead of throwing things and getting out there? He just stays there. The golem is the MOST worthy thing out there..nothing of the cargo is more impressive and important then the golem. NOTHING. He said so himself that it should be impossible how the golem is made. And then he sacrifices this golem, and the arm at the end now, for what? For stupidity? For some crystals? The golem that is worth more than anything else there. We must be honest here. The character is out of place. His behavior is not in line with what he should be. Feedback end xD cheers!

Mr. Bigglesworth

Well, that was the end of that. He's dead now unless somehow the plot armor prevents the arm from being used to track the golem. I'm sure an organization that funds city crater projects won't use the rune research on that arm for anything nefarious.

Chong Go

Thanks! I'm really loving this story!

Ace_the_owl

Whew. With this, the Mage Tier is now 10 chapters ahead of RR, plus one bonus chapter, as it was supposed to be. And the Archmage tier will be 15 chapters ahead this Sunday, by 5PM, plus one bonus chapter. The normal once-every-two days chapter will also drop for both tiers. Sorry it took so much time. This has been going so fast I still hardly believe it. I only get 4 hours of writing time a day so, I try to make it count. With that being said, everyone, I know I may have said that before, and by the time this drops, I'll probably be asleep as it's late here, but I would like to say thank you. Those are not just words I am throwing out there, I truly am grateful. Thank you for supporting the story, for commenting it, for the advices, the feedbacks to make me better at writing it. I hope, I really hope, that I will be able to provide you with a story that is worth the interest you put into it. I wanted to answer all the comments, but, being busy with the edits to bring you the chapters faster, I couldn't. But, once the Archmage tier is completed tomorrow, I hope to catch up. Read your thoughts, advices, feedbacks. And until then, I hope these chapters entertain you :)
