Great point! Excel and the like are closed systems where it is difficult to create new features. For a long time, they didn't support error bars very well, for example. But, analysis programs like Mathematica (which you mention) are fully scriptable, and someone could code up exactly what you describe and even share it on Wolfram website. (It might already be there!) But, Mathematica is harder to learn than Excel and other spreadsheet-style programs, so there you go! Great video, I hope PLotly or someone starts adding this chart. Boxplot? Box and whisker is kind of what I was expecting to see here but I do like the simplicity of the stacked range charts... Boxplot is just what I'm used to for seeing ranges and outliers and spread.
