And the winner of the 7.3.12 poll is...!
🕑 Added 2021-12-30 00:12:26 +0000 UTCModel Engine! This was a very competitive poll - 14 people seem to have joined Patreon just to cast their vote, which shows how much people got invested into this.
People seem to have a few questions and misconceptions, so let me clear some stuff up.
1) Do you need to buy Model Engine to use custom models?
Yes, this is out of my control. Model Engine does however have a demo version which allows you to use to up 6 models.
2) Does this make Model Engine mandatory to use EliteMobs?
No, it just means you have to use it if you want to see the Custom Models. Not every boss will use Model Engine models. Not using Model Engine will just make it so it shows the basic Minecraft mob to which the model was meant to be applied.
3) How will EliteMobs use custom models?
The use of custom models will probably be restricted to a few bosses by default. While we have not yet tested it, it is most likely that creating custom models, skins and animations will be rather time consuming, so we will use it sparingly, especially since I don't expect everyone to buy the Model Engine plugin, nor for players to use the resource packs required for it to work.
The models are applied to a normal Minecraft mob, so if either the server or the player don't have the plugin they will just see the base mob.
For the time being, it will not be possible to tie specific animations to specific powers, as that would require some serious trickery behind the scenes to make work.
4) Will admins be able to make their own models?
Yes. You will just have to tie in the custom model info on your boss' config, the same way it currently works for LibsDisguises' disguises.
5) How will installing custom models work?
The installation of custom models will work in the same way the installation of any other feature in EliteMobs works - through the imports folder.
6) Is Mythic Mobs involved in any way?
No. Mythic Mobs uses Model Engine, and so too will EliteMobs. Mythic Mobs and Model Engine are two different plugins, and the use of one doesn't necessarily imply the use of the other. It just so happened that thus far Mythic seemed to be the main plugin hooking up to Model Engine.
7) When/where/how often will we see custom models?
This is a tricky question. I do not want to commit to an answer, as it will depend on how many people actually use the models and how long it takes to make them.
It may be that in order to be able to afford making models in the first place these will at times be distributed in premium packs so we can provide more.
Ultimately, it depends on the level of interest the EliteMobs community displays over this feature.
At the very least, a free model will be provided once this update is done to show how these are meant to work.
Alright, I think that covers most of it. I will start working on adding this now, probably will be streaming a part of the process as I go.
I do not think it will take too long to implement this, the biggest time sink seems to be making hte models themselves. If you guys know of good modellers, please let me know.
Happy adventuring!
