Status update
🕑 Added 2021-01-27 07:34:02 +0000 UTCAlright so I've been working very heavily on EliteMobs these last few days, and that culminated in the release of the absolutely massive 7.2.23 update which features a completely redone command structure!
I've also been working on various aspects of documentation in the wiki to help people start off.
These changes were planned for later, but since Discord is getting around 20+ new users every day at this point and an average of 200 (mostly support-related) messages/day, I shifted focus to simplify the elements that seemed to cause the most issues.
Here are some of the main changes that I've made with 7.2.23
- The permissionless mode is now gone, as well as the elitemobs.user permission. Instead, all permissions which players should have are defaulted to be assigned by default, and elitemobs.* contains all the permissions that admins and OPs should have. This seriously simplifies permissions, and makes good use of the default Spigot behavior, so everything should be more reliable and easier to navigate.
- The commands now have tab completion and suggestions, and /em help lists all the commands as well as what they do and what the correct argument syntax for them is
- /em remove is now a key command for dungeon creation and modification, because it directly removes config spawn locations from Regional Bosses. This seriously speeds things up.
- /em addSpawnLocation now automatically finds safe locations for elites to spawn in, so no more bosses spawning in walls!
Hopefully you can see why I've been waiting until after the commands to work on the Air Ship minidungeon! With these new tools, things should be seriously easier to manage.
I will be creating the prototype bosses and loot for the new Air Ship today, and full release is planned for this weekend. It will introduce a few new powers and a few new custom enchantments, so look forward to that!
Finally, I want to talk about what 69OzCanOfBepis has been working on. You might see the image in the title, and you would be correct in assuming that it is for a future Minidungeon. If you are attentive, you might realize that actually it is a really massive map. And this is just an early version - there's going to be a whole city where the sand currently is!
This is an attempt at a new type of Minidungeon. There is lore, there is a puzzle to complete in order to reach the final boss in the pyramid, and the whole thing is basically a big adventure map instead of just a 1-off building. This will be hosting a few hundred regional bosses!
This is a bit of a risk as creating this type of content requires a far larger investment of time (and money) in order to pull off, but I hope that it will become the preferred format for people running EliteMobs in the long run, and that longer dev cycles to create these are justified by the quality of the content. Please let me know what you think about the direction that this type of content is taking!
Just a closing note, regarding the public build: I still want to tweak the first setup experience a little bit before the full release, but the main thing that I wanted to do - commands - is now done, it really is just a matter of adding some polish to the existing build before release.
Alright that's it for now, see you on this weekend's post for the Air Ship Minidungeon!
