Update: Salons This Week
🕑 Added 2022-12-14 04:44:15 +0000 UTCChristmas is approaching, and for me this is the season of wondering how much to bother about Christmas.
I wonder how much other people have this question; I imagine if you’re from a family for whom Christmas is a big deal, you probably have a normal version of Christmas.
As a bit of a Christmas outsider (perhaps the TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS) I categorise the christmases I have witnessed into the following:
- secular food and family based Xmas;
- religious Christmas (mass, baby statue in a little manger, sneering at capitalism);
- Business Christmas (organising Christmas events and presents around your feudal obligations);
- For The Children Christmas (trying to make some magical memories for people who may or may not be forming memories yet)
- Jewish Christmas (making fun of Christmas madness, making much of then not actually very big deal festival that is Hanukkah, probably eating Chinese food and watching a movie with your family on Christmas Day).
- Anti-Christmas (Christmas in negative; as defined by Christmas as the most tinsel obsessed Instagram housewife. Working the environmental critique hard)
None of these christmases are exclusive of one another, but they all have their norms, and pressures and funs.
Salons this week will be on Thursday 8pm and Friday 8am Sydney time. I will do the little time-zone conversion images tomorrow, because someone has just woken up from a nap. (Not me, I write these posts while awake, mostly).
