Michael

I think whether or not I use an arrangement reference comes down to how I'm feeling about the track and whether I'm already envisioning how it would flow or whether I need some ideas on how to make the loop work as a full song. I do it less often now that I have so many mental models of different arrangements and how they can work (from experience). I think when possible, a song with just an A section is usually gonna be stronger, so i wouldn't try to fit in a b section without real intention. If it needs two sections to work and stay interesting, it's potentially going to be less compelling overall because each section may be taking away from the overall memorability of the ideas/track. A common exception though is when you have a vocal and a melody that trade off

Thanks Mike, I love watching the arrangement process. it is something I really struggle with. I noticed 2 things. do you usually find a "reference track" as a rough guideline for your current arrangement? and also I noticed this whole track is largely 1 main idea not much of a "B section" but you still manage to make enough changes with one main idea to keep it interesting. I'm still learning how to do that. often times I pressure myself to try to come up with a "b section" but I often lose the flow and then my song falls apart. One thing I really liked on this video was seeing you use the single note on the baseline during the break to add tension. such a simple thing but it is so effective!

Love watching you work on these. Really catchy song. Onto part 2!
