Hard agree! In the sitcom era it felt like a way to break down the inept/buffoon husband's partner; who would otherwise be entirely out of his league, with imaginary faults.

OMG YUSH! I hate stupid, sexist marriage jokes and whenever I hear one, I cannot help but tell my spouse how much I love him and how damn lucky I am to have him in my life. I will never, ever, be able to understand people who don't see how toxic that is and think it's funny to belittle and attack their SO. You and Carson are awesome ❤

Yeah, I hate those jokes too. Why marry someone you clearly don't care for? That's why, when I did standup, I ran my jokes by people. But then, the only joke I ever made about my wife was about her being a cougar (she's 3 months older than me), and she thinks it's funny so... *shrug* Do better, men.

This reminds me of how my partner in IT was at a work lunch with boss and tech bros. They were all making these jokes about their wives/gfs and saying they nag them. When they asked him about his. he apparently said "I enjoy spending time and doing things with my partner all the time. She's my best friend. I'm sorry you all don't feel that way." 💕
