My Blue Period
🕑 Added 2025-01-16 23:31:43 +0000 UTCA collection of almost all the comics I made during my “Blue Period”. A time when I only drew comics in blue.
This period of my art lasted from January 2020 to March 2020 and features 34 comics. They explore everything from the start of the pandemic, to mental illness and therapy, to just downright funny comics. The variety reflected the many highs and lows I was feeling.
For those that don’t know, just before the pandemic I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety, and a Panic Disorder.
Unfortunately a lot of the medications for those disorders are not good for people with Bipolar and ADHD (which is what I was officialy diagnosed as in 2024). Because of this I was improperly medicated and experiencing extreme cycles of hypomania and depression.
During my hypomania episodes I was able to create comics, though my depression prevented me from being able to properly color them. Thus the blue period was born!
I chose blue as an ode to Picasso, who went through a blue period in his artwork. I believe his Blue Period is what invented the art term “Blue Period”.
The thing that brought me out of it was Animal Crossing New Horizons. That game allowed me to focus on something other than working. It was a reprieve from the emotional yo-yo I was experiencing. It is a social game you can play with friends, so it pulled me out of my isolation. In fact, the last comic of my blue period is me playing Animal Crossing New Horizons!
Thanks for reading my review of this period in my life. It was quite emotional to go back through these comics and feel how much I was struggling. But I am here now because of all I’ve been through :)
I’m in such a better place with proper medication and therapy. I am so grateful to be here now and continue to make comics for caring, generous folks like you!

i remember all of these. it was something that pulled me through that period of time too. and i was also suffering from misdiagnosed bipolar with the same diagnoses and just to look back at these comics that resonated so deep in my soul and see how much you suffered, and how it brings up that anger in me with my own mishandling. i really appriciate this. so much. you made me feel seen and not alone with your art and i am happy to be here finally so i can support you!
