April 2021 Progress Report

Boy… Uh. I don't even know how to start this month's “progress” report.
Disappointingly, or well devastatingly for me, writing STILL has not been completed and the remake of the demo has made little to no progress.
Writers Uria, Sunny, and Chase have been relieved of their duty, and now writing will be handled SOLELY by me and Sam Rose who were initially only in charge of DJ, Irene, and Cheri.
To give percentages of how much of each route is written
Ramon: 90% needs finalization
Kalei: 90% needs finalization
DJ: 90% needs finalization
Mitts: 95% needs programming cues
Rosita: 50% up to chapter two completed
Noel: 5% barely started
Irene: 90% needs finalization
Fayebael: ???%
Cheri: 20% need other routes to be finished before can be worked on
This may not look bad but Sam and I completed the rough draft of Ramon’s which had half of it finished, Kalei was largely (if not all of it) written by myself, and while Mitts’s rough draft was complete the finalized version needed to be almost completely rewritten (The events are all the same, just detail needed to be added everywhere).
A Lot more work has been shoved onto our plate than what we signed up for, especially mine since I’m also the primary artist for sprites, CGs, and outlining the screenplay for programmers.
On top of all this programming has nothing to show for it. This is in part because the head programmer has been dealing with wage theft from their primary employer and has taken a toll on him. Regardless, I would still like to apologize to those who were excited for the rebuilt demo and that will be showcased on a “when it's done” promise moving forward.
...at least some sprites and bgs got done. Hurraaaaaay?
BG Character Sprites
A look at some of the supporting/background characters:
Camilla la Blanche: A mammon demon that wants to sue Ramon in chapter two.
Dominion: Seraphim and the face of The Choir in Utopia.
Aero: Employee of Ramon. I thought about making him a promoted demon but I couldn't figure out a horn style I liked and I think it's important to show that there are humans besides the player in Hell. Also it's just funny to include one of my older, well known, characters into the game and say they went to Hell lol.
Ariel: Ramon’s child
Hana: A trial goer in Haven Home that the player and Kalei assist in Kalei’s route with a very quirky speech “accent” and prone to accidents.

So progress isn’t exactly where I would like it to be, but thanks to these setbacks I know what I need to do moving forward.
Sam Rose is getting writing done every day at a steady pace while I get work done on sprites and backgrounds. TJ has been a tremendous help in getting backgrounds finished and is easily one of the most reliable members we have on the team right now.
The programmer situation is difficult since the wage theft situation is not their fault, but if progress isn’t made within the next month I’ll be looking into either hiring another coder from somewhere, or look into making the rest of the novel with the resources we have.
Between Sam and myself we CAN make the game, it just wasn’t supposed to be our responsibility, so we’ll see what happens moving forward.
It’s unfortunate that I don’t have as much done by now as I wanted to have done, but progress is happening, even if a little slower than hoped.
Sam, TJ, and I will continue to work hard and keep you updated on the situation and hopefully I’ll have a better report for you next month!
