….
Survival of the fittest, that was how the world worked. No matter at which stage, even when humans had everything handed to them, the same ideology presided.
**
Whitebeard stood atop his old crewmate, Kaido, and as he used the Quake-Quake power to try and kill him. But unlike other opponents he faced, the beast in front of him was different. While anyone else would have at least been unable to fight with getting an earthquake point-blank in their face. Kaido had taken over a hundred of them by now, Marineford shook and almost seemed to fall apart like a lego toy.
But Kaido still was conscious, trying to get out of Whitebeard's grasp. Finally, he got an idea and started transforming into his dragon form, making the old man unable to keep a hold on him.
"Wurararara~" Kaido laughed. "Old man, you have grown fiercer. Almost thought I was going to die there."
Though he said that with confidence, Kaido felt his brain still trembling. 'This old man… who said that he had one foot in the grave? I will kill the fool.' He thought, the grin on his draconic face growing even wider.
Whitebeard on the other hand seemed unhinged by this and only an enraged look was permanent on him. Oden's killer was right in front of him and he still couldn't kill the man. It made Whitebeard feel weaker than he had ever felt, being unable to destroy someone who killed his family.
But he wasn't going to give up, today he will take Marineford and Kaido down with him. That was a promise he made to himself. Today… was his funeral. With that in mind, Whitebeard calmed down and smiled at Kaido maliciously. "Small fish like you should stay in their little ponds."
CRACK!
With a mighty punch from Whitebeard, the island shook once again, the air crackled and a huge tsunami wave appeared behind Kaido. The wave was big enough to devour Marineford in one fellow swoop.
Aokiji by now would have stopped something like this, but he was dead. So Kaido looked at the rising tide and blew a beam of pure flames and dispersed the tsunami into a thousand pieces and making it harmless rain.
Kaido turned around with a mocking look. "Heh, old man, did you think something like this was enough-"
But he didn't get to finish his words as he saw Whitebeard in front of him with his halberd. The old man swung down with one hand, and a large gash immediately appeared on Kaido's face, cutting up another one of Kaido's eyes.
"Agggh!!" Kaido screamed, his voice and breath destroying many buildings. He unconsciously started releasing Conqueror's Haki and knocking out anyone weak-willed enough. Even those with a strong will had their legs buckle under them, only those who stood at the peak took this calmly.
Whitebeard hadn't had to use strategy in a fight in a long time. But he was no slouch at it, he knew that Kaido didn't have the temperament to use Observation Haki clearly. The man was simply too easy to anger, and without his eyes to see… he was blind.
Sure later on he might learn to live blind and even grow to become calmer. But that wasn't happening now, and Whitebeard knew that. So he grabbed Kaido by the snout and pushed down.
BOOOM!!
Kaido crashed on the ground, destroying everything around him. Whitebeard landed down on his head, kicking the man with a full-powered Quake.
Just like that, Kaido was down, he tried getting up but Whitebeard stabbed his halberd on top of Kaido's head. The white bubble of quake power traveled through the halberd and entered the Strongest Creature.
Kaido's body stopped moving and Whitebeard breathed heavily. He knew that this fight had been to his advantage and he only won due to taking Kaido by surprise. But fights were like this most of the time, an outside factor would always heavily impact one side or the other if they were in similar strength levels.
Whitebeard looked around the battlefield. Since he had been fighting Kaido he couldn't take his eyes off him or the battle would have been lost.
But in the corner of his eye, he saw something that broke his heart into a million pieces. Ace's body laying down on the ground with a finger-sized hole in his head.
An unprecedented fury rose within Whitebeard. It made him feel deep sadness, a parent's worst dream was losing their child.
Looking around for the culprit or who could have done it didn't lead to anything and he just saw marines fighting against pirates.
"Ugh!" With a mad grunt he punched, the air in front of him cracked and a quake shockwave went towards Marineford HQ building. No one was there to stop it, and the HQ crumbled like it was made of paper. With another mad roar, he turned around and did the same, this time destroying every single marine ship docked here.
The control Whitebeard displayed in his Quake power was something that most people thought to be impossible with such a destructive fruit.
"Everyone!!" Yelled out Whitebeard, his voice spreading through the island. "It's finished! Everyone get away from Marineford! I am sinking this place!"
"Pops!" Some of his crew looked at him with tears in their eyes. They knew what this meant, pops wasn't coming on the ship with them.
"No ship can carry me in the New World anymore. My era is long since gone." Whitebeard said, his eyes filled with resolution now. He would sink Marineford, that was the grand funeral he had prepared for him and his sons who gave their lives today.

On the other side, Sengoku, Kizaru, Garp, and Rayleigh heard Whitebeard's voice.
Rayleigh was injured and one of his arms was twisted strangely and his body was covered in blood. Dozens of light beams had pierced him. Yet he still had a smile on his face. "Hahaha, sinking Marineford? Well, I can get behind that. Even if I can't do it, he can."
On the other hand, Garp, Sengoku, and Kizaru had different expressions. Even the usually laid-back Admiral had a bead of sweat roll down his face.
Whitebeard had the power to sink the island if there was no one to stop him. Unless it was someone quite strong, then they wouldn't be able to stop a monster like him.
Sengoku glanced at Rayleigh and started walking towards where Whitebeard was. But as it was expected, a giant-sized sword slash stopped him by cutting the ground right in front of the giant golden buddha.
"Are you leaving so early?" Rayleigh asked mockingly. Sengoku shook his head and instead pointed at Kizaru… or where he used to be. Now he had long since gone to the other side of the battlefield to stop Whitebeard.
"Tch." This annoyed Rayleigh, but there wasn't anything he could do about it.

-Max POV-
Screams and howls, sounds of explosion and battle the smell of blood and metal. That's what this battlefield smelled like.
I just stood atop one of the walls, looking down on everyone else. The war is finished now, there was no reason to fight anymore. But I won't let it end this soon, the Marines needed to suffer a little more damage. I looked at Kaido's downed body, most might think he is dead, but no… he was unconscious. He still had his dragon transformation.
But if he was really unconscious, then he should have ended that transformation too and turned back into his human form. Was he faking it?
Or maybe it was just a state of half-consciousness.
Countless plans formed in my head. This war had to go on some more, and Whitebeard already had a foot in the grave.
Damn, if I knew this I wouldn't have injured the old man so much. This war needs another main antagonist, and I had just the person in mind.
