Chapter 67: Suspicious Noblemen
🕑 Added 2021-09-07 20:34:18 +0000 UTC"All the dishes have been ordered by you, guys, so how do you expect them not to be expensive? Our shop has in-depth cooperation with the mercenaries, and our dishes are well prepared with a generous amount of high-quality meat.", The boss added.
'Twelve gold coins, twelve gold coins!’ Arman muttered to himself.
Although he has over 100,000 gold coins, 12 gold coins is still a lot to pay!
’If I eat this meal ten thousand times, won't I be broke?’
"No! I still can't pay you this much! You were around and heard us last night, weren't you? Anna said it was her treat! I can't let her go back on her word!" Arman insisted firmly.
"You can each split the price between yourselves, four gold coins will do." The boss said.
"No! It’s still a no! Anna is my friend and I can't let her break her promise! Let me go, I'm going out to find my other friends!"
Arman was very determined that he would just walk out of it.
Seeing that persuading him was futile, the boss could only watch as the two dragons left. Then he gazed at Anna and said to himself, "It's not that I didn’t try to help you… Eh, you'll feel better tomorrow."
......
Once Shillong and Arman left the tavern, they walked casually for a while, then walked into an inn.
The owner of this inn was a beautiful woman in her thirties. Her eyes lit up when she glanced at the two dragons who just walked in.
It was all because the two dragons were dressed tightly and nicely, especially Arman, who looked like a nouveau riche.
The proprietress smiled delicately, "Greetings, my precious guests. You two are here for housing, right? We have high-class rooms that are specially made for nobles like yourselves, I am sure that you will like them a lot."
"A high-class room for nobles? That should be good! How many gold coins would that cost us?" Arman asked.
"2 silver coins a night. How many nights will you be staying?"
"2 silver coins, huh? Isn't there any cheaper option?" Arman asked.
'Damn! How come that a place to sleep in is so expensive?’
'If I stay here for a few hundred thousand times, won't I be broke?’
'No way!’
"Cheaper?" The proprietress's face changed and looked a second careful time at the two dragons, 'these two guys... their outfits are not stolen, are they?’
'You close-fisted elf, You can easily pay if you pull down a few silver scales from your clothes!...’
'Why are you this stingy with me?’
"Why are you looking at me like that? Do you have any cheaper rooms? If not, we're leaving!" Arman said angrily.
"Yes! There's a normal room for 80 copper a night, and a lower-end room for 10 copper a night!" The proprietress took a deep breath and said, suppressing her doubts.
"10 copper coins? This is not bad! Ma’am, you take us there!" Arman finally decided.
The proprietress: "......"
"Good! Follow me."
With that, the proprietress led the two dragons towards the back room. The 10 copper coins room was at the back of the inn, alongside a row of low wooden huts.
Each room was only about six square meters.
When one of the two dragons arrived, the proprietress said, "This is it! Numbers 5 and 6 are where you will be staying! To sleep in for a few days, you need to pay the money up front!"
"Ugh? Wait! Why are you assigning us two rooms? We only need one, that will be enough! And we’re only staying for one day!" Arman exclaimed in surprise.
"......"
The proprietress was silent. She kept silently staring at the two foreigners with shining eyes for a long time before she smiled, "Sure thing, pay the money first, then you can stay in!"
At her words, Arman turned his head to look at Shillong, who had been silent this whole time.
"What are you looking at me for?" Shillong finally spoke up.
He felt quite embarrassed. As a wealthy man who possesses hundreds of thousands of gold coins, he had to stay in a room like this!
Generally speaking, they should have booked the 2-silver-coins nobles’ suite!
But then, when he tried to speak, his heart ached!
He couldn't bear it!
He had earned all this money with his hard work, wisdom, and sweat!
'Damn it! How could I not give up two silver coins!’
'I must have been infected by that fool, Arman! I must have caught the disease of stinginess too!’
He took a few deep breaths.
Shillong was silent!
When Arman had stared at him in silence for a long time, he finally spoke without expression.
"You pay!" Arman said.
"I pay?" Shillong took a deep breath and said dissatisfied, "Why should I pay? You brat! How many thousands of gold coins did I give you for nothing? How dare you ask me to pay?"
When the lady heard this, she kept silent, but deep down she was cursing them, 'Two poor bastards! How dare you pull this act in front of me? Thousands of gold coins? How dare you ask me for a single room worth 10 coppers a night?
There's definitely something wrong with these two guys!’
"What you give me is mine! Besides, you have more money than me! Of course, you pay!" Arman justified, "Don't you forget what Mum said when we came out! She asked you to take care of me!"
Shillong: "......"
Alright! I'll pay!
Shillong gritted his teeth and pretended to reach into his pocket, pulling 10 copper coins out of it and handing them to the proprietress.
"Hmph!"
The proprietress took the copper coins, smiled, opened the door to the room for the two dragons, and then left.
Shillong and Arman walked in. The smell was unbearable inside, with several unpleasant stenches. The room was generally dirty and messy.
With a wave of his hand, Shillong performed a simple cleaning spell. The room was instantly refreshed and the odor was gone.
Arman looked at Shillong and nodded in relief.
The big black guy was really good at what he did!
There was only a wooden board and nothing else in the room. Arman and Shillong didn't mind, so they laid down on it and closed their eyes to rest a bit.
......
When the proprietress returned to the counter, she called her husband to come and watch the shop. She left the hotel in a hurry and went straight to the nearest Police Station.
You can know what the building is for just by looking at the sign: Public Security Management Office.
The sheriff inside is responsible for maintaining all the day-to-day troubles of the city.
There are naturally people on duty day and night.
The proprietress went straight inside and told them what she had seen.
A few of the magistrates looked at each other and one of them said, "You say that a Dragonborn and an elf are staying at your inn, wearing noble clothing of several gold coins each and a noble sword, and asking for tens of thousands of gold coins from each other, but preferring to stay in a room of 10 copper a night, so you suspect them of being thieves?"
"Yes, they are definitely thieves! Stealing some nobleman's clothes by despicable means! Posing as nobles!" The proprietress looked serious beyond belief.
Ta-da~
A magistrate was sitting on a wooden chair tapping his fingers rhythmically on the table, "Do you think it's possible that their money was stolen by thieves?"
"No way! If their money was stolen, then did they come to you today to ask for help? They look like two poor people! A real nobleman wouldn't stay in a ten copper room even if he was broke, so why didn't they sell their clothes and swords and stay in my nobleman's suite?
So they must be thieves!" The proprietress put both hands on the table, and at the end of her sentence, her whole body leaned forward slightly, both eyes looking at several magistrates with unshakable determination!
The magistrates looked at the proprietress’ eyes, thought for a moment, and then said, "You have a good point! Our aim is not to spare any suspicious elements from committing crimes in Star City!"
At the end of his sentence, the magistrate stood up sharply, "Let’s go! We’ll take those two suspects into custody and interrogate them!"
