Chapter 19: Learning Spells
🕑 Added 2020-08-31 16:06:57 +0000 UTC”Clap! Clap! Clap!”
The sound of applause rang through the cave. Shillong kept clapping with an impressed look on his face.
"Yes, it's amazing. Can you show me what you are researching?"
"Of course...Yes!" Jones hesitated for a moment before agreeing.
He walked to the corner of the cave and pulled out a wooden box from a hole in the wall.
Then opened it, revealing what’s inside.
It's all pills.
Taking out one of the light blue ones, Jones introduced it excitedly. "Your Excellency, this is the Jingyi Pill."
"What’s its effect?"
"I’ll show you now, your Excellency."
After Jones said that, he took off his robe and spread it on the rocks in the middle, then crushed the pill and spread it evenly on the robe.
The blue powder immediately turned into a pool of blue water after touching the robe, then quickly evaporated. While evaporating, the dust and dirt on the robe were also dragged with the steam up.
In just a few seconds, Jones' robe became completely new.
He shook his robe, put it on again, and said. "I have been trapped on this island for ten years with only this piece of clothing, so in order to not become a savage, I developed this Jingyi pill. Its effect isn’t bad, right?”
"Yes, very interesting," Shillong said with wide eyes.
"Do objects with the same function as your pill exist in the outside world?"
"There are similar objects, but their effect is far from my Jingyi Pill," Jones replied.
"Haha, not bad. If I go to your human world and use your method to mass-produce these Jingyi pills, I should be able to make a lot of gold coins, right?" Shillong asked curiously. Although he isn’t as obsessed with money as other dragons, he still feels that having more money is good.
The social model of the metal dragon clan is similar to that of human beings. They also use gold and silver coins in their respective transactions. After all, they aren’t unreasonable robbers like the dragons from the five-color evil dragon clan.
Money is not omnipotent, but nothing can be done without money. The same principle applies for the silver dragon clan.
"This...I'm afraid it won't work," Jones said hesitantly.
"Ha? Why?"
"Because of the high difficulty of production. Jingyi pills are very hard to produce. If there’s not a master level mage as a supervisor, then there’s no way to produce Jingyi pills, and master mages usually disdain to do such a low-level task…”
"Tch! That's boring, Do you have anything else?" Shillong curled his mouth in disdain.
"Of course," Jones said, then took out a light pink pill and described its function.
"Your Excellency, this is a satiety pill. It’s necessary for travel. Just a single pill is enough to fill your stomach!”
Shillong sniffed a bit, and actually smelled the scent of meat from that pill.
"Jones! My stomach is empty!" The spirit dragon Pachi, who had been looking from the side, anxiously said.
"Here you go!" Jones threw the satiety pill, and Pachi jumped up to catch it. After landing, he chewed the pill in his mouth with a look of satisfaction.
"Satiety pills can not only fill your stomach but also have a very strong taste. The taste of meat burst out with the first bite, stimulating your taste buds and giving you the illusion of eating top-grade beef. It’s the favorite of my spirit dragon, do you want to try it?”
At the end of his description, Jones took out another satiety pill.
Shillong looked at it curiously, then took it from the hands of Jones, put it in his mouth, and chewed slightly.
With just the first bite, a strong meat taste broke out, he even felt an underlying fresh and spicy taste, the texture is also surprisingly soft and juicy. It’s even better than the wagyu beef he ate in his last life.
Nodding in approval, Shillong said.
"It tastes good, but what's the matter with that spicy flavor? It shouldn't be the taste of the meat itself?"
"Of course not, These flavors came from the pepper flower and fragrant vanilla flower. I mixed them together to make these satiety pills." Jones said with a look of pride.
"Does pill this already exist in your human world?"
"Yes, I recreated it since Patchi likes it!"
"Is there anything else?"
"Of course there is."
……
Shillong listened to Jones' introduction for a long time. His creations were all pills, and they all already exist in the outside world, or there are other objects with similar functions.
After showing him everything he ‘Created’, there wasn’t anything groundbreaking or new. There wasn’t even a single novel prop.
"Are there any novel props? Are you sure you’re an alchemist, not a copycat?" Shillong asked silently.
"Your Excellency, I’m really an alchemist. It’s just that with the simple conditions here, with no equipment and personal laboratory, it’s very hard to create some novel props...”
"Oh, don't worry, I recognize your ability! I won’t beat around the bush, please teach me your magic and all you know." Shillong said with a serious look on his face.
"It’s okay, but learning magic is not a simple matter. The reason you were able to easily lean the transformation speed is due to your inherited memories. If a spell isn’t included in your inherited memories, learning it will be much more difficult.” Jones reminded.
"It's okay, I’m idle anyway. I have a lot of free time now." Shillong said with a smile.
After that, Jones started to teach magic spells to Shillong.
The first spells that he is planning to teach him are naturally fire spells, fitting his natural attribute.
They naturally have to start from the basics, from the low-level spells to the high-level ones.
Jones first taught Shillong a level 1 spells, firework. Using this spell results in a small flame, which is usually used to illuminate dark places. It has basically no destructive power.
Shillong followed Jones's teachings and succeeded in using firework after just 2 tries. This learning speed is much faster than what Jones expected.
After using this firework spell, a palm-sized orange-red flame appeared on Shillon's palm. Its temperature is very low, lower than even that of a stove.
Shillong threw it on a rock but nothing happened to the rock, the flame was also instantly extinguished.
There wasn’t even a black mark left.
It is no different from an ordinary firework.
This obviously can't satisfy Shillong. As a powerful dragon, how can his spell be so weak?
He cast the spell again but this time he kept increasing the output of magic power. The fireworks became bigger and bigger in his palm, quickly reaching the size of a football.
Seeing this, Jones was a little frightened. He begged Shillong to experiment outside, for fear of him breaking his cave.
Shillong agreed and walked out of the cave, Patchi followed behind him.
When he came outside, Shillong continued to increase the output of magic power, but after the firework reached a certain size, it dissipated again.
In this regard, Shillong tried many times after that, but the firework couldn’t continue growing past that point. That’s the limit of the firework spell.
Its limit is only about 1 meter in diameter and barely hot temperature.
Shillong tried to throw it on a tree after it reached its limits. After the collision, the flame went out. It didn’t destroy or even burn the tree, just barely left a burnt mark on it.
Spells have limits, especially basic spells like ‘firework’. No matter how much magic power is poured into it, the spell still doesn’t have any destructive power. This is the limit of the spell that no creature can surpass.
This also might be the reason why magicians also tirelessly researching new spells.
Shillong thought that just like those novels in his past life, he will be able to raise the power of a basic spell to the level of a legendary one by constantly increasing the output of magic. However, he didn’t expect that this is basically impossible.
Although the energy in his body is extremely destructive fire energy. Furthermore, he is a special energy lifeform with more than 90% of his energy being a single element, this still doesn’t majorly affect the power of the spells he uses. All spells have a low and high limit, and no creature can exceed it.
The only things that his energy greatly affects are his natural talents, like dragon breath.
Although he was a bit disappointed, Shillong still quickly focused back on learning spells with Jones.
After that, Shillong once again learned two levels 2 spells, flame rays, and target combustion.
This flame ray is basically shotting a fire jet from his arm.
Using the basic form of this spell on a tree resulted in it getting ignited in about 3 seconds. Using this spell on a human without armor can also result in considerable damage.
Increasing the magic output of flame ray to the maximum results in a super-fast flame jet, about half a meter thick, and one that can burn a whole tree in less than a second.
As for targeted combustion. This is basically a lock-type speel. After selecting a target, one can use this spell to create fire around the target.
The higher the mana output, the higher the temperature of the flame and the wider its range.
