-----------------------
The trees in front of them trembled slightly, followed by a huge head drilling out from the branches. It’s a praying mantis, but it’s big, it’s got to be over 5 meters long.
After appearing, it stood upright in front of them, it’s much higher than them so they had to look up to clearly see its appearance.
"It's a mutant praying mantis. Make it quick!"
After Henry saw the appearance of the monster that appeared, he immediately yelled to his subordinates
The two soldiers behind him suddenly stepped forward together. They raised their normal guns, then immediately shot at the head of the mantis.
“Bam!”
The huge praying mantis had just appeared, and before it could decide its next action, its head was quickly penetrated by the two bullets.
"Let’s get out of here as quickly as possible."
Henry glanced at the dead mantis on the ground, then waved to everyone else, stepped past the mutant mantis body, and quickly moved forward.
The smell of the mantis blood along with the sound of the gunshots is likely to attract the attention of some nearby monsters.
Lee Sheng followed behind Henry, but this time, he has even more doubts about the Forbidden Land. The mutant praying mantis they encountered before can also be found in the Old Land, but it’s a common creature even back there.
The strength of this mutant mantis is ranked at the bottom of the food chain even there, so he felt weird seeing this type of creature in the place considered as ‘the most dangerous place on the planet’.
"They can’t even resist ordinary bullets."
Looking at the mutant mantis body, Lee Sheng shook his head.
Of course, the ordinary bullets and guns he is talking about are vastly different from those of the old era. Using railgun technology, they were able to increase the speed and penetration power to an extremely high level.
However, their power is still vastly inferior to that of explosive weapons and laser weapons.
The big team continued to walk forward. Just when they got past the mantis body and started relaxing, the body of the mutant mantis behind them suddenly exploded.
“Bang!”
Henry, who was walking ahead violently turned his head and shouted loudly.
"Be careful!"
Lee Sheng, who was pressed against the grass, raised his head slightly and looked back with a look of surprise.
The mutant mantis behind them suddenly exploded, turning into many small pieces. To be more precise, its stomach was the thing that exploded.
Then from inside, many black shadows flew out, turning into black beams heading straight towards their team.
The black shadows headed straight towards their back, then tried to drill into their power suits.
"Ahhh!!"
Many people bent over and started loudly screaming, those dark shadows actually passed through their power suits, then penetrated their flesh and blood.
This time, a total of five people have been affected. After a series of loud screams, these five people started roaring and shouting madly. Each one ran in different directions, disappearing in the jungle.
"Is that an iron... An iron worm?"
Lee Sheng had a mortified look on his face. He knew about the existence of iron worms, an extremely rare species of insects that live by parasitizing other creatures. However, he didn’t expect that the previous mutant mantis was parasitized.
After its host dies, it will leave his body then look for a new host. Even scarier is its lightning-fast speed and violent way of parasitizing other creatures.
"Bastard!"
Henry cursed angrily. The five people that were parasitized were his subordinates. After taking a deep breath, he sternly warned everyone.
"Everyone, be careful, there are dangers everywhere in this jungle."
Lee Sheng no longer dared to treat the Forbidden Land with skepticism and contempt.
After seeing five people die without warning in front of him, he finally started getting a bit nervous and afraid. What will he do if he was the next target? So he didn’t dare to act arrogantly anymore.
In this fashion, seven days passed in a row, Lee Sheng and the rest of the team could be said to have seen hell on earth in the past 7 days.
They saw too many weird and bloody creatures in this jungle.
In the beginning, Lee Sheng wondered why there are very few creatures in such a lush jungle, but in the next few days, the number of weird creatures and grotesque monsters they encountered skyrocketed.
All of which constitutes a great threat to them.
For example, on the second day, they encountered a weird bat that has a wingspan of 20 meters. Lee Sheng and his team watched from afar as it killed a 9 meters long sabertooth tiger; Just as it was about to grab it and leave, it was attacked by a bigger Falcon.
In the end, the Falcon grabbed both of the bat and the sabertooth tiger and left.
The size of these creatures is actually average, the scary thing is their peculiar abilities. The sonic attack of the bat, the supersonic speed, and stealth of the Falcon. Creatures with such abilities are very hard to deal with.
In the past few days, Lee Sheng could be said to feel his heart hanging, he couldn’t relax for even second. It’s horrible. 25 people from their team were killed, leaving behind only 105, and the number of the injured is even higher.
"Mr. Lee, maybe we should end this search operation."
Henry walked towards Lee Sheng and reported their situation.
"It will be almost impossible to find 120 people in such a short time. Even if you provided us with their rough location, it would still take up many months to completely scour this area, and I’m certain that we can’t last until that time"
In fact, what Henry wanted to tell him is that the research team members are most likely dead. Even such a heavily armed team like them had so many casualties over the past few days, and this is still the edge of the forest.
Lee Sheng’s eyebrows twitched. He heard the implication behind Henry’s tactful words. In fact, he understands this too, but if they go back empty-handed, his boss will definitely be furious.
If he goes back without finding the person, he will definitely be thrown into the sea by his boss to feed the sea monsters.
"Even if it’s their bodies, we must find them!”
Lee Sheng said fiercely. "Let's look for them again, maybe we can find their traces. The last signal they left was around this area"
Henry looked very helpless. Corpses? They should have been eaten a lot of time ago.
However, Lee Sheng is the one leading the team, so he can only listen to Lee Sheng’s words and continued searching.
Fortunately, this time, they had some discoveries.
"Hahaha, they had been here before, there are traces of a man-made fire."
Lee Sheng saw a clearing not far ahead, where ash could be seen. Next to the ash, there are traces of human movement along with some traces left behind by mechanical tents.
"Lieutenant Henry, see, they stopped here before."
Lee Sheng pointed at the open space in front of him and said.
"Judging from the traces they left behind, they should have headed in that direction."
He pointed to a direction, from which traces of footprints along with broken bushes could be seen.
Henry finally let out a sigh of relief. There are indeed traces of camping here. He also hopes to find the research team as soon as possible, then leave this damn place.
After all, they lost almost 30 people in just 7 days.
Three more days passed.
Lee Sheng and the rest of the team continued to follow the traces left behind by the research team and finally had some results on the third day.
