Stueymon

There's a part where Mikri says "Your kind" but aren't these the first humans he's met? It seems to me the Vascar aswell an obvious villain for this SL.

Space Paladin

Thank you! Introducing the Vascar is my favorite part of the intro too! 😅

PhycoKrusk

Well, gravity appears to function the same, so there's that. The Newtonian Laws seem unchanged thus far, too. However, it also clearly takes a great deal less energy to move about, so clearly something about thermodynamics is different.

PhycoKrusk

Outside of Sol, the laws of thermodynamics are demonstrated to be different. Power output of the ship thrusters was rational within, but without the output is completely unreasonable in appear of the fact that the fuel has not changed and therefore has the exact same energy density. Therefore, something else has to be different. Ergo, we cannot simply assume that anything works the way that we expect it to.

ratmanjac

This second chapter really hooked me, excited to see where this series goes!

EliasArt2Life

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing. Kind of on the nose. Elusians, derived from elusive or elucidate.

EliasArt2Life

The Vascar are synthetics, aren’t they? Non-gendered beings that are capable of hacking and downloading stuff from a computer especially fast, no ranking system, a robotic voice (it might not be the translator), an individual of which is capable of processing all of that information near instantaneously, and is at war with an entire alliance, despite seeming like decent people? Ticks most of my checkmarks for synthetics for me. I think the Vascar know more about the Elusians than they are letting on; they know more than I’d expect them to know about Elusian activities than they should if they don’t have a deeper connection. If they ARE synthetic, maybe they were made by the Elusians. I hope we get more information about how the outside universe’s physics differ from ours in the next chapter.

Gumcel

The elusive Elusians, and the elusive Mikri you’ve been talking about. Interested in seeing where this goes.

fastinn

good.... good....

Sworishina

My prediction: the Vascar are humans. If not, then the Elusians are.

Nachtmund

I'm pretty sure these are robots. Mikri said the Alliance posed no threat to Humanity, and might even recruit us, if given the chance. Their machine-like voice, the lack of leadership titles, and the black suits could be evidence for that. I don't trust these secretive space gimps at all.

DDDragoni

New friends!

DreamEnvoy

"I could run much faster and easier out on the asteroid—in spite of a bulky spacesuit." So the reactive force is much greater than the applied. That would make space travel at lot easier. More likely to build interstellar civilizations. Yeah, Preston probably shouldn't have panicked. They're your only chance of rescue. Even if hostile, death by them would likely be better than by starvation.

Sci-fi reader

But it take A LONG time to radiate away, currently not in hours. Probably not in days given the electronics and even body heat are still heating up the cabin.

Tyler Ellis

Humanity been playing on nightmare difficulty for the past 300,000 years. Now we’re being thrown into the tutorial.

John Krause

It radiates away slower than in air but it radiates away none the less

STEAM.fiend

Oh this is fun :)

Aured

Lots of intriguing questions raised here. I'm curious why the alliance wants to destroy the vascar. With the weird physics of this universe, humans' overpowered propulsion tech will likely be our HFY advantage once we're able to move freely.

Sci-fi reader

Wouldn’t matter. It’s vacuum. Unless energy can be teleported away, heat can only be radiated away.

PhycoKrusk

Within Sol, absolutely. But outside?

Sci-fi reader

Vacuum of space isn’t cold. It’s a vacuum. Heat can only dissipate by radiating, which is inefficient. The ship will stay warm for a long time.

TheDudeAbides

Maybe that's why nobody was guarding the area? They were busy chasing down the previous ships lol

Byron Ritchie

Hmm interesting how the suspected ‘jailers’ weren’t at there post I do see how this is going to go Well one way to find out!

Space Paladin

Thank you!

Pineapplepilot

Also wonder what happened to earth's earlier unmanned ships that went through the portal, they probably just disintegrated without a pilot to slow them down lol.

Pineapplepilot

Oh, it's a deathworlders situation. Our space is much harder to move in than their space, which will make us much more physically strong than them. However, it's applied across ALL physics, so I wouldn't be surprised if all earth mechanical engineering just ripped itself apart in the new universe. Unless the materials from earth also carried over their durability, firearms and vehicles will just explode.

Yonael Blackwood

Let's go! My money is on hivemind aliens. Mikri is the mind leading the bodies.

Mysteriou85

So we know of five species. One is the Vascar, three are in the alliance and the last is the Elusian. Interesting if I understand correctly it was not say that the Elusian and the Vascar don't work together, maybe just neutral or the Elusian coule just be so much more advanced that nobody try anything with them All that interesting ! We didnt get a real description of the Vascar. I wonder what they look like, maybe were going to know in the next chapter

XavHD

Most awkward first contact ever 😂

Pay Me For NOTHING

I love it! Can't wait to see more of this universe!

John Benjamin Cate

Why hello there Mikri. A member of a strange new race of Aliens, and standoffish! Wonder where this will do!
