coud we see when arxurs helped after kalsims' atack

Dookus Maximus

Because she isn't a real journalist...

Stueymon

For some reason I mentally have Indrek speaking with a Irish accent

Gavin Pierce

Ya know, something kinda clicked with me after reading this. The Krev’s reaction to humans is like a human’s to their crush, albeit the krev have less self control. Cause ngl some of the inter monologue of Flevi is similar to how ive felt before when working/going to school with someone I have a crush on. Ie how some things they do, that if others do, would probably be annoying or weird, but when they do its not. And thinking like “omg theyre so hot and cute” but having to talk regularly ngl sometimes it hard. But it def seems a bit similar to how the Krev seen to interact with us. I think that revelation has shifted my perspective of the situation.

I have to wonder: if Lecca, who is 5 or 6 years old, weened, motile, and capable of robust communication, is the size of a squirrel, how large are Krev at birth? Presuming they're as altricial as most highly intelligent animals are at birth, I'd imagine they'd be no bigger than a human thumb. This then leads into how badly Flevi's birth must have gone for her mother to die from it. Primates in general and humans in particular are an oddity for how dangerous childbirth is for them, due to their unique hip structure. For most mammals, childbirth is generally pretty safe, and even relatively painless for those with altricial young (primates notwithstanding). I REALLY hope Indrek does a lot of research before diving into adopting a rescued obur. Rescuing problem dogs requires a very specific kind of person who has a tremendous amount of patience and skill with them, and we've evolved to interact with them. Sure, we might be preadapted for sharing body language with other primates, but that only means it's not a totally lost cause. (Edit) Also, I'm curious what Flevi will think when she gets to see a human up close, especially the burly sort that miners tend to be. A funny thing about humans is that we actually have just as much body hair as any other ape, we just appear hairless because most of our ground hair (the shorter hair that makes up the voluminous undercoat on most mammals) is so short and fine that it's nearly invisible to the naked eye, leaving only the relatively sparse guard hairs (which are also typically finer in women). Even the bald portions of the face, like the nose and forehead, have hair on them. The only truly bald parts of our bodies are our palms and the soles of our feet.

Some things are built with machinery, but that was the Trombil who used fancy automatons to build the new city on Tellus! It’s also why a lot of megastructures/orbital rings outsource their work to the roboturtles

Space Paladin

Unfortunately, I do have to sleep, since I’ve yet to ascend to a robotic body 😅 In seriousness, I appreciate the appreciation! I really do think about this story and universe constantly, and try to keep ahead + tell a good story for you guys! The schedule, ah, certainly isn’t for the faint of heart lol

Gumcel

Wasn’t krev construction automated? So either it isn’t entirely automated or automated construction is a more recent invention.

I agree, though; they (and we) shouldn't be ashamed of our violent nature and history. That capacity for violence is an important part of who we are, and it has been used for good just as much as it's been used for evil. We should be aware of it, and careful with it, but we shouldn't feel shame or pride over it: it is simply a part of who we are, and we should integrate it with care and self-awareness.

Interesting developments. I feel so sorry for what Flevi has gone through. She definitely a sympathetic character. I agree with Indrek calling the Krev’s actions out; the fact that they assumed the humans were the Federation doesn’t make their previous actions excusable. It makes them a little more understandable, but in the end, they still did it. They pushed a group of people that they knew were struggling into a terrible existence. They never brought up the Federation, or really did anything to confirm their suspicions. Aside from their secretive nature, humanity never did anything to lash out at the Krev. There were certainly no communications between them and Federation space. It should have been obvious that there was more to the story, but the Krev stuck with their suppositions. They found it easier to do that than challenge and ensure their presumptions were right. So, in the end, humanity has a right not to forgive them so easily. Of course, humanity has to take some of the blame as well, which Indrek didn’t do, but that’s a tangential point. I am NOT happy with Indrek getting mad when Flevi said that she didn’t know how to treat him as a human. Humanity is a new species with their own neuances for how they are to be treated. You wouldn’t treat a Resket like you’d treat a human; they’d take offense at some perceived attack on their honor, and beat you up. So why should Flevi know how to treat humanity? It strikes me as similar to the “just treat us like everyone else” that minorities and ethnic groups like to toss around; no you don’t. You want to treated with the same respect you would show any other person, but you want them to also be aware of your group’s specific acceptables and unacceptables. Of course, they never SAY what those acceptables and unacceptables ARE, so that leads people like me to just observe from the outside, trying to figure it out for months. If anyone asks you how they should treat you, remember that “just like anyone else” is unhelpful.

EliasArt2Life

Or maybe the “inter” prefix came from something else. It could be “inter” for interpersonal. I like the idea, just wanted to point out there are other valid interpretations too.

Alekss Žukovskis

hey hoe, hey hoe, and off to work we go.

AFoxGuy

Paladin I genuinely have a question… do you ever sleep? XD You just make so much content for us at such a decent quality idk how you can do it. Let alone for almost 4 years now

Alekss Žukovskis

now thats an insight. the Krev call their web - Internet, which suggests they have nations amongst themselves cuz: international network

Space Paladin

3243 words including the A/N, it’s not short!

Swan

bit of a random thought; but I'm curious if the miners did work songs while working

Jagger

The Consortium really needs to hurry up and make amends with the Sapient Coalition so they can see that the rest of humanity isn't as insufferable and victim-minded as these ark ship colonists. Many people would love the attention the Krev give these humans and would probably just return the treatment. The Jaslips would probably get similar treatment from Earth humans.

Kevo

This chapter felt so short

Willy

I love u bro great idea

Space Paladin

Thank you!

Aured

This is great. Love the dynamic that they're starting to build.

DreamEnvoy

Good to see their relationship is already starting to get better. Flevi opening up about her past humanizes her and finds some things to relate to humans. Still hard to like her knowing she's just doing the exchange to boost her career.

Space Paladin

Thank you!

Guardian

Not sure how I feel about Flevi stating we shouldn't be ashamed of our violent nature/past, but I imagine this is something you'll continue to delve into with the narrative, SP; I am definitely looking forward to that.

Guardian

Burning stick dolls? Heh, nice Blair Witch reference.

Bbobsillypants

I dont know if its a good idea for a human to adopt a obor given the diferences in body language they would constantly have to watch themselves.

AlphaAllNight Gaming

I wanna see Indrek teach his Obor how to dap him up

Willy

Thank you! A heart felt story for once!! Love you SP ❤️

Sci-fi reader

There is lots of homelessness in cities with billionaires right now.

Byron Ritchie

Hmm Well while both still have a bit of a way to go before they can be friends ( or even more 😉) they are already on better terms then last time so that’s good

John Benjamin Cate

In a post scarcity society, there’s still homeless. Yikes.

James

He has a lifetime of anger and hate toward aliens to over come. It wouldn't be easy to get over thinking your planet and people were destroyed, forced to flee, and end up as basically slave labor for 20 years.

un_pogaz

Flevi's story is tragic, but that doesn't excuse him for treating Indrek like a person. Damn, we're not out of the sand yet. Incidentally, Flevi is much more in search of recognition than a real journalist.

Conner Deese

Indrek reads like a grumpy old bastard half the time who can't see the empathy tree through a hatred forest I do hope he gets over that... Or gets slapped on the face the first time he smiles at an obor because smiling is a threat display to most primates

Yonael Blackwood

Now this is good.

Michael Halpern

Eyes and tonality, but eyes especially, teach them to gauge by human eyes, most directly analogous emotive feature to use.
