This chapter really tied the opening together for me. The innital chapters could have been a bit more fluid setting the stage but now that we're here it was well done. All the different organizations have their own goals and agendas all in potential conflict. Each has to make decisions for its constituents or to further their goals. Because they are working independently they will inevitably step on eachothers toes causing rivalries and politics to spring up. I enjoy how the groups all have unique objectives that are similar in may ways but not enough to see that in eachother. Now I can't wait to see if the competitors can be corralled by a good leader or if they generate irreconcilable differences and tear the SC appart.

Yes, I find it sooo creepy. Poor Eli. I think the bot is its own person but not Mier. But the fact that Tera Tech is constantly behind the scenes watching everything he does and editing him, they don’t see him as anything more than a tool

Jones for the win!!! Seriously, I've been wondering what happened to her, and I am glad to see she is still doing her work and is as sharp as ever. Meir's statement about "letting her near vulnerable aliens" just shows that he really needs to stay out of politics. He is just no good at any conflict situation at all, and I think this time his grovelling techniques are not going to bring any benefit to the Sapient Coalition. What is even the point trying to recruit the Fed remnants? They can not fight the Consortium, and by now, even without knowing who they are, humanity should realize they are not the kind of enemy you can throw Fed loyalists at. Trying to appease them is going to be way more trouble that its worth. Also, I know robo-Meir is depressed about being a robot, but whats the deal with "deciding who lives or dies"? Even a memory transcription of Meir should be logical enough to know humanity was not in that position during NoP one. This idiotic notion you can fight a war of survival by some "conventions" or "rules" or "laws" actually makes for immoral leaders, that fail to protect the people that elected them to run a nation in the first place! Rules of war are always written by the victors after the war, and are only valid according to how that last war was fought. I seriously wish that would have brought back Zhao instead...

Friends, I want to point something out, even if most of you now will never see it: Terra Tech is viewing Meier's stream of simulated consciousness in real time. Answer me this: We see that Kuemper was able to put his concerns to rest. How did that happen? Did it happen because Meier-bot found her reasoning convincing? Or did it happen because a group of glass-eyed technicians saw the unfolding existential crisis, and Kuemper just happened to provide them cover to push a software update? Anyway, food for thought. (Also, is anybody else getting the heebie-jeebies from the sheer volume of updates they're pushing directly to production?)
