Michael

The federation had been keeping an eye on humans. The farsul might have translated human languages and keep it buried in the software

David Bollinger

Not gonna lie, this feels really off, like some sort of weird AU fanfic. Like, aside from the fact that this is way before the events of everything, and it seems like this would almost certainly screw with the timeline in some way, it also seems to contradict the way translators are described. So far, they've been described as having translations of languages that the Federation had translated, not as being able to figure out a language from listening to it, and definitely not figuring out a language that quickly. I really hope this isn't intended to be canon.

Yannis Morris

Black market/Piracy?

Is it weird that my biggest question from this series is: How is Nilrie as smuggler? I mean, the Federation is one entity, it has no internal borders as far as we know. And he isn't even hauling anything illegal. So, why would medical supplies need to be smuggled inside the Federation, and where from and to are they being smuggled?

Jhon Bustamante

parece que la humanidad se ha vuelto muy debil donde esta el espíritu guerrero anda.rogando por ayuda en vez de empezar a fortalecer la fuerzas militares y alistarse para una guerra menos mal los yotul no han perdido el espíritu

Space Paladin

I’ve released at 7 AM sharp, 4 days a week, for a year and a half, and don’t plan to stop. If there’s ever a delay I haven’t announced, something must’ve happened to me 😅 it’d literally take the Reaper to make me stop writing lol

DARVIdD2

Time for dinner, I bet the alien will love my wife's steak and eggs, best in 100 miles

Alekss Žukovskis

the tab on the left has notifications, bell icon. use that. bloody patreon!

Joe King

Bro, why the hell wasn't I notified of this chapter!? I was despondent that nothing was released yesterday... apparently that was wrong! Bloody Patreon...

CyberpunkGandalf

Given that Blake and his wife sounds like actual God-fearing Christians, and she is advocating towards kindness and hospitality, I think there is going to initially be a lot of fear from Nirlie, but as he comes to understand, humanities, cultural distinctions, maybe he will ease off and come to trust us. For example, because he is clearly a thinking, and speaking, being that it’s just different from us, he automatically gets classified as a person which means that he is automatically protected by a host of cultural norms, including the fact that cannibalism is considered taboo. Also see that these people value, honesty and kindness towards those in need. I suspect the medical supplies are going to come in handy at some point and he will really see that the primitives are not in any way predators as he thinks of them. I suspect after he saves the town from some kind of medical catastrophe, he will have earned their trust, and the sheriff will start getting other townsfolk involved to round up or make parts that could be used to fix the ship

I'm looking forward to this. I've always been a fan of the classic Western style of story. Also, I know this is probably a bit neurotic for me to bring up, but the term "fuck" was simply not a popular swear in the American West, at least not until it was brought over by former soldiers after the Civil War (who, IIRC, picked it up from the sizeable number of German volunteers who had immigrated to join both sides of the war at the time). The most popular explicative at that time by far was "damned" or "damnation," which was often softened to "tarnation" or "tarn (darn)" in mixed company. "Hell" was also considered pretty strong language, but "hill" was the popular softened version back then, rather than the more modern "heck."

Hello There

Oh… oh no 😨

Willie

So when is the krev is Europe and everyone thinks he's so strange knight 🤔 But fit real this is gonna be interesting

[REDACTED]TMA

1850s America? Is Nirlie about to witness the horrors of slavery?

Yannis Morris

I mean they've been able to... Wait no you're right. That is f**king weird for the translators. There is f**king work that goes into the translators. I was gonna say "Well the translators have always let the implantee *understand* languages without necessarily letting them *be* understood" but then I realized what you were saying. That is weird as heck

Gumcel

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I don’t see how this can all work. Like humanity didn’t know this happened so nobody else can see him, nobody can notice the giant fuck off spaceship. He has to somehow get off for a brain scan. Everyone has to be completely obvious to all evidence of an alien and record none of it. The conspirators didn’t know about humans this early either so they have to be completely obvious as well. I guess translators can just translate on the spot now? I don’t think that was a thing before. Unless this is in universe fiction I don’t know how this would all fit together. Still interested to see what happens next though, can’t wait for Nilrie to get enslaved by a showman and forced to spend the rest of his life in a circus.

PhycoKrusk

There's the answer to my question, then: A modern Western.

Space Paladin

The vast majority of this chapter was written live on stream, but I promise there is much more details about Takkans and much more we’ll discover about the story to come!

Space Paladin

Canon! Anything that’s fiction, I promise I’ll make that clear at the start like I did with Becoming a Predator 🙏

Space Paladin

This is canon! We’ll have to see how the transcript came about 😅

Space Paladin

Bar fights, hangings, lassoing cattle; all sorts of fun predator stuff! 🤠

Charming Cobra

It's going to be so cool to see how a Federation alien views the wild west, and how they possibly slip into the cracks of history. Unless Nilrie gets rescued somehow, he's going to spend the rest of his days on Earth...maybe he'll become a cowboy himself :D

Wingit98

I like this idea a lot. At this time and place, we'll definitely fit more of their predator ideas, while still being just relatively civilized people. Very excited for a fed to witness a duel out in the street at high noon.

AlphaAllNight Gaming

I can’t wait for a gunslinging Takkan

PhycoKrusk

Could be anywhere in the New Mexico Territory. Lot of cactus, though, so that sounds closer to Arizona to me. Say... pretty unlikely that Nilrie crosses paths with outlaw by the name of Texas Red, wouldn't you say?

Wesley Rigg

Ooo, very interesting. I assume this one is cannon? This raises interesting questions about how little equipment it takes to get a memory scan, (then again, of all the things he is smuggling it's medical equipment.) and if in universe the IRL rumors about the US government covering up the existence of aliens is true.

PhycoKrusk

Especially once he realizes that Cornelia was trying to be a good hostess by serving _oats,_ and that breakfast is often just beans and hardtack.

Ron1990

Arid surroundings, southern nevada perhaps ;-). Do you ever heard of the starfall of '51, some guys from the in 1850 new founded Pinkertons investigated the site, and suddenly some military build a fence around the area of 51 :-). Thank you for the story so far. Perhaps we get some light and humorous narration.

Noname1225

Fuck yeah, I love western stuff

Roscuro

Is this canon or another in-universe work of fiction?

E G

I will say that I love this. This feels very pulpy, which is a good thing. I love pulp. It reminds me of something I'd read in a Hellboy comic.

DrewTheHobo

So hype for this! Wonder how he’ll react to the terrifying predator food “oats”

Dragon Writer Luc

I also noticed it's before the Civil War, which might be quite the culture shock for our narrator.

RaptorRed

I was caught off guard, felt like I could have used a little bit of a description of what I was about to read and a reminder description of a takkan. But so far so good, this is fun and I can't wait for more!

Sci-fi reader

Eggs yes, but would bacon really be easily available in the wild west? Meat would be expensive then.

Luiz Henrique Alves

Maybe it got a cryopod there and decided to give itself some cooldown until earth had enough tecnology to fix it's ship, leaving it do be defrozen in the regular story time?

Space Paladin

I was being absolutely literal. Nilrie will have to deal with actual predator humanity, not the docile, friendly ones from the year 2136!

Space Paladin

What? Prey are weak and powerless! How could he?

Space Paladin

Thank you!

EliasArt2Life

Clever, choosing the 1800s. Sci-if didn’t become popular until the mid 1900s, and electronic computers were invented around the same time. Unlike almost any other time, humans here have barely any concept of alien life or computers. I’m feeling a little sorry for Nilrie. I don’t think he’s getting out of this unscathed. Probably at first, but not permanently. The Federation officially discovered humanity a decent time after this, and decided to bomb us a little after WWII, ~ 100 years after this. However, you also have to consider the fact that the Farsul and Kolshians knew about humanity for some time before telling the rest of the galaxy, running tests. You also have to consider the years of debates, that the Kolshians kept stalling, on whether humanity should be killed or not. All that being considered, I think it’s very possible that the Kolshians found out about Earth from Nilrie. I’m just hoping that it’s someone violating Nilrie’s privacy and reading the memory transcription, and not an interrogation or Nilrie reporting humanity (whether to have us killed, or out of a misplaced belief that we can be “saved”). Due to a lack of resources, I don’t know if Nilrie can fix his ship, so he may need a lift. Other smugglers might stay quiet. Other members of the Federation, not so much. Of course, I suppose it’s just as likely that Nilrie finds a way off, and keeps humanity a secret, but another explorer finds Earth afterwards.

Spencer M.

Didn't think you were being literal when you said that it was a western.

Mr Mopp

Should be interesting. Though given their size,I have a hard time believing a takkan wouldn’t be able to snap that bedpost like a twig.

Apogee

Ooo I’m excited for this one!

Space Paladin

The Takkan go way back! They freaked out when the Arxur broke containment, and the Krakotl stepped in to negotiate a new accord for peace 😅 ties to one of the “founders”!

Space Paladin

The frontier is a far cry from the amenities that Nilrie would be used to! Wild, untamed land…something that doesn’t exist in the Federation

Space Paladin

I’m glad I could excite you with two little words in the title 😅

Sci-fi reader

With or without James Bond? 😄

Dragon Writer Luc

Reportedly, creatures similar to dinosaurs have been found living in modern times (as in, within the last 200-1000 years) and appeared in newspapers and similar publications at the time. Very few people know about or believe those stories today. There's a big difference between "one was somewhere sparsely populated and it made local papers" and "thousands invaded our airspace."

Daniel Slivers

many interesting things going on here, number 1 imo being that this takkan somehow has a memory transcription

Dragon Writer Luc

Fun fact: "Wild West" stories are *not* based on US history. They're from samurai stories from Japan! Generally speaking, the environment & technology is that of the western US at the time, but the characters and society are more reflective of Japan in roughly the same time period.

Thrownawaz

Hah! This is the first time I saw a title, upvoted and then read a chapter! I love it!

Bbobsillypants

What in tarnation is gonna happen when this here little taken sees these so called predatory fellows chowin down on some good ole fashion oats. Gonna knock them there socks off i reckon!

Byron Ritchie

Huh I wonder why aliens didn’t become knowledge before the offical first contact (Byron was later found that day with 30 shots to the back of the head, his death was ruled as an accidental suicide)

troll

iirc they look like Hippos

Stueymon

This is a nice tangent to get into! I'm interested in the premise.

Aured

This is a fun situation - I'm excited to see how it develops.

Sci-fi reader

What does a Takkan look like? I am getting thr ETs mixed up.

Michael Halpern

im guessing at some point the crash site gets discovered, possibly unearthed in the process of cleaning up after the bombings

Quiidek

I'm really exited to see where this is going. Taking place in a frontier America is awesome. I hope Nilrie won't be too racist to her helpers lol.

Rick

Aliens and cowboy's! Very interesting angle, can't wait where this goes.

Yonael Blackwood

Bacon and eggs heart attack incoming.

un_pogaz

>the strange part was that bandages had been placed over my wounds, and the creature had resisted the scent of a powerless prey animal’s blood *roll eyes* Right, go back to this shity this nonsense to the point of shot yourself. However, since there's no Farsul propaganda about the humans, there's a chance he will end up being much more receptive to the truth. What an interesting concept. As we have his Memory Transcription, Nilrie will get out of there. But how and to what extent will this experience change him? wait to see. Besides, 1850? even with a late departure of 50 years, is far early. The Federation won't hear about humans until the 1940s, so he probably won't say anything about it (probability to become friend increases). I think Black's reaction is good. Okay, he's a little rough, but it's all so strange that I can see why he's confused and worried about all that. On the other hand, the meal was going to be a disaster. Poor Cornelia, that prime rib had been prepared with so much love. Else, photography existed at that time (but it wasn't instantaneous yet) so there's a some chance that evidence of he passage is hiden in some attic somewhere.

Yannis Morris

Okay so the Arxur were a threat back in 1851. Good to know for the timeline. (I know I probably could’ve figured that out by doing the math on “400 years before 2136” but still.) Okay so this could conceivably be before the Duerten. Which confirms the Takkan were assimilated before them. Good to know. Or… Not, I guess. Not really a solid confirmation of that. I guess it confirms that the Takkan were in some way part of the Federation since 1851 at the latest

Yannis Morris

Cryopods

Youre a swedekisser arent you

Ah, Federation aliens gaslighting themselves never gets old. They're very good at coming to the conclusion that things are tricks even when there would be no real way to think it was trickery. And Donovan definitely has an understandable reaction, what with aliens crashing on Earth before man has even flown. Hopefully Nilrie will break the trend of extreme density in spite of all genuine proof, but I doubt it. Also glad to see you added a whole 'nother part after Don leaves Nilrie in his room! I wasn't sure if we would be getting more than what you wrote during that little event thingy or not, but I'm glad we got some. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

RaphaelFrog

I'm looking forward to see more of this side story! Keep doing an absolutely wonderful job with your writing!

Swan

I'm deeply curious where this is going, and how you're gonna tie this in with the rest of the series (Since it doesn't seem to be another in universe fiction)
