Let's assume that; the person is aware this is gonna happen, has accepted the fact that the resulting being will be them just not the same "them" that they were before their shared experience of death and was well aware of all the sensations they would lose in the process, then the process doesn't sound too bad. It's only terrible in the case of Elias because he wasn't aware, it feels like marcel and virnt are 2 mad scientists playing god (obviously virnt probably doesn't see it that way and we can't be too mad at him for it but he should get a good talk about why what he did is horrible). The big reason both are so different is because in one case you have a being who has accepted what he is and is essentially just transitioning from human to machine, in the other case they're literraly torturing someone with sensory deprivation. The tech should be reserved to those that are well aware of the implications and are willing to go trough with it, using it on others should be considered a crime against sapient's rights and be associated with the fitting punishment.

The only POV character to actually die, and he's resurrected. Character death seems kind of cheap now. Also reading minds live? Introducing a technology that removes the danger of dead into the setting? Altered Carbon handles this dilema fairly interestingly with stacks. But if all you need is a USB stick to preserve someone dying on the battlefield I dunno man.

I would have thought quantum computers are standard in this time period given that Lisa(?) had an achieved snap shot of the internet when Sovlin took her pad.

Ok, I have not read all the 200+ comments on here, but I bet no one pointed this out: Remember how Dustin said that even with quantum computers the SC couldn't crack Tsia's encryption? Now we know for sure that is BS - the first contact team just didn't have any real resources! How do I know this? Well, its simple: Tsia computing can't be ahead of human computing if robo Elias exists. You see, to put enough compute in to the size of a meat brain to fully simulate it, and also have it be energy efficient enough so the robot does not need to be plugged in to a wall, would require a breakthrough in computing on par with inventing the FTL! Computers we have now may be able to crunch numbers accurately at speeds unimaginable for humans, but they don't come anywhere near the data processing capabilities of 9 billion interconnected neurons. Using transistors in a conventional Von Neumann architecture even the biggest super computer we have now, at a power cost of a small town can't simulate a dog's brain, let alone a human one. Just not enough compute capacity. And quantum computers probably will not be a solution to that because they only have very limited and specific tasks they can do, even if we can get one working with enough qbits with no interference to actually be useful. So whatever robo Elies is running, must be areal breakthrough in compute. And if humans can figure that out, they should have been able to pawn some reverse engineered ancient Fed tech. Even of the space penguins had a century to improve it.

Federation did very bad things with biology. Its turns out humans are going for altered carbon and cyberpunk kind of stuff instead. I wonder which horror theme the next regime is going to explore?

The fact that the memory transcription isn’t until after Meiers revival is kinda suspicious. I don’t know if this is intended, but it creates a divide between human Meier and robo-Meier. This story is going to have a lot of ethical debates, about whether memories are what makes you. Im predicting robo Meier will have mental breakdowns and imposter syndrome (? Is that what it would be?). But I’m hoping Tassi will meet robo-Meier. I think the two are very similar, with their optimism. He would probably get along great with Naltor too, because of his military know-how

Wow, the emotional turmoil I’m experiencing… I love the unexpected twist. I can’t wait to see how the technocracy reacts.
