Jonas Room

He went to go get the milk.

EliasArt2Life

I think that it works based on biological maturity. Venlil biologically become adults at 16, while humans take a couple years longer. Where you go doesn’t change your biological growth. When you get down to it, there’s no reason why these types of laws should apply to aliens. Imagine if an alien reaches adulthood at 45. Should they be allowed to drink at the humans legal age when on Earth? What if an alien only lives to be 30? Do they have to wait more than half their lives to go to a university on Earth, when their culture gives them a proper education in 5 years? Overall, there are a ton of questions brought up, but I figure that the rule is that you go off of the biological age of the species, in comparison to your species.

Johan / Phoenix

Just wait until she gets into collage, and they start talking about Elia's Major (subject of study) :D ;)

Lucky

wait tho, just a random thought, like i get that by human standards Ari’s not an adult til 18, but he’s also legally Skelgan too right? cause of Tarva, so wouldn’t also be an adult on Skelga any way? like kinda how drinking laws work here? where even if its legal in one country you follow the other countries rules? It just seems kinda odd to me I guess that despite going through the Skelgan school system, he still wouldn’t be an adult there til 18. Like if Elia can go to earth universities on a Skelgan high school diploma, shouldn’t Ari too?

EliasArt2Life

@Space Paladin I know, it’s just something I’m not used to reading/hearing. Elias isn’t that common, so it’s rarely used in fiction, so whenever I hear/read my name, I assume someone’s trying to get my attention. I never had to learn to confront someone else having the same name as me (and being referred to instead of me). I’ve always been very happy about Elias Meier, and Elia, though; on the rare occasion I’ve noticed a character being named “Elias” in fiction, it’s almost always been either a villain, or a side character with dislikeable character traits. It’s nice seeing characters that share my name who are actually good people.

Space Paladin

Elias is her namesake!

Space Paladin

I’ll fix that!

I was going to comment on previous chapters how it wouldn't fit the timeline for Ari's parents to be on an Ark ship, but I haven't considered the possibility his dad would actually dump his pregnant mom and fly off... Now I am kind of curious what happened there exactly...?

PhycoKrusk

Not Kane's style; too professional, too precise.

Yannis Morris

We got his cheeks described as the color of acorns back in one of the previous parts. And I swear that he’s described as “light brown” somewhere

T___

Right, I've never seen this phrase before: *"at flamethrowerpoint"*. Awesome! Then, something needing a little fixing: "wanted her child to live to conception". I'm pretty sure conception - being the beginning of pregnancy, the impregnation or insemination - happened BEFORE the biological father entered the ark ship. What the mother probably wanted to do was to carry the baby to term. That means staying pregnant until the baby is ready to be born. A third thing: the aunts name, Lesedi, is used 86% by black African. Have I somehow missed the part where Ari's skin color was mentioned? I need to adjust my mental image of him. I think it's better like this.

jr_aye

Regarding Ari’s mother’s story, conception is actually the *start* of a pregnancy. Minor mistake.

Blake S

Im curious to see how the disparity in physical and mental development manifests itself in the story. Like is Ari effectively mentally stunted in comparison to elia? Did she develop emotional maturuty earlier than Ari? I mean human adulthood used to begin at 15 or younger in some cultures. I find this developmental diferences thing fascinating.

EliasArt2Life

It looks like Ari is already starting to recover a little, and Elia is starting to confront how it’s impacted her. I think these two are going to be okay. Side note: I keep doing a double take whenever Elia’s name is brought up, especially when the “‘s” is added. It the beginning of NOP1 all over again!

Space Paladin

This is actually mentioned before the story’s end, it’s plot relevant!

Yannis Morris

@PhycoKrusk I think they meant prejudiced against aliens

Mr. Walker

Maybe they don't know each other for security reasons.

Vladi Vladi

Hilarious that Noah refers to his family’s first responder as “kind stranger”. A bit rude to not know the names of your bodyguards as dignitaries

Mr. Walker

They got three years to figure it out. Maybe he'll take adult ed classes, Kahn Academy and a part time job to fill up the time.

S1nsational

Have humanity opened their own schools on Skalga? If not, then all human children, Ari importantly, will be going to Venil schools. And that raises the question of rates of education to rate of physical maturity. Ari and Elia are functionally twins, Ari being chosen for his age so he'd grow up with his sister, so they'd be or have been in the same classes in school (we would have heard about any segregation in the brothers side story), so if Elia has graduated high/secondary school and is finished her education assuming she doesn't attend college like her mom wants, then surely the same would hold true for her brother. But we haven't heard anything about Ari finishing school and needing to look at colleges, on Earth or elsewhere. Even saying human 15 is too young for college, compared to a Venil 15, there would still need to be plans for what to do with Ari once he's graduated like his sister.

PhycoKrusk

Na. That'd be predictable and boring. It would also suppose that 110 years into the future, absolutely nothing had changed.

Mr. Walker

Don't get too close to the Hippos, Rhinos, or Elephants. Just because they are herbavores doesn't mean that they are friendly. Also, don't smile at the monkeys.

TheBlack2007

One chapter might be the obligatory tour through the Savannah where Tarva (and Elia by extension) will learn exactly why humans developed into persistence hunters.

PhycoKrusk

I've said it before and I'll say it now: print path is first because print path is first.

Mr. Walker

That would be too much, even for me. I could see this guy being played by the same actor and using split screens and camera tricks to put him and Will in the same scenes. "What are you talking about? We don't look anything alike!"

Mr. Walker

Oh man. I hope this boy is an interesting character. Maybe Venlil, maybe Human, maybe a cute little Zurulian teddy bear, or a FARSUL! Drama! Give us Drama! Give us sweet drama to satisfy my self-righteous reader sadism! Give us thinly veiled paretental racism! Give us star crossed lovers alternating between being cute and have tension thrust upon them! Let's see Ari and the BF being bros just before one gets bullied! FEED MY NEED FOR SENSELESS DRAMA!! *starts salivating* . . . I need to get back to my fanfictions.

Byron Ritchie

Most of us were guessing he was William Kane

Yannis Morris

Well the present timeline seems to be occupied with this bio family stuff but we got like four flashbacks to see this boy Elia has a crush on

DRIVE ME CLOSER, I WANT TO HIT THEM WITH MY SWORD

I read him less as a mercenary and more a MI6 or CIA type

Alekss Žukovskis

South African Genes be strong, yo!

S1nsational

Elia is a fantastic sister

Mr. Walker

Mushrooms

Mr. Walker

I wanna see High school drama with these two. Crushes, rivals, pranks gone wrong.

Willy

Hopefully it doesn’t come to that, but if it does hopefully the aunt gets character development and may feel guilt for shunning her dead sisters little one.

Youre a swedekisser arent you

Agent Wolf seems like a pretty wholesome guy in spite of the whole mercenary thing. I wonder if he's someone we know, just many years after we last saw him?

Byron Ritchie

Hmm I’m a bit suspicious of the aunt tbh

Byron Ritchie

Most probably yeah

John Benjamin Cate

Glad the history is discovered! Now hopefully they can process being kidnapped!

un_pogaz

Tragic for Ari's bio-mother. Also, if the air is now breathable, I think the soil and water are still heavily contaminated. It's not a direct threat to their health, but it's going to make rehab efforts more difficult. Wait wait wait, minute. Aadan, Ari's bio-dad, was on Ark Ship 3? Oh, I wonder if we'll hear from him if he's still alive in NoP2?

Yannis Morris

Okay so we got four more parts to go through. I am worried about this Aunt and/or the people around her

Yannis Morris

TEN!? TEHHHN?!

Yannis Morris

And here comes everyone writing down the name of Ari’s biological father.

REDemon14

Ark 3 you say? hmm. Did kinda wonder about any lingering toxins on earth, well now I know. Great chapter

Paperclip

Late due to car troubles, but hey! Also, here's me hoping Ari and/or his dad is mentioned or shows up in main story at some point

Hello (I have nothing to add)

Yonael Blackwood

I loaded the page on the dot and you were already here. 🤣

Yonael Blackwood

The aunt is gonna be a raging racist, isn't she?

print Path

Pure and uttermost dedication my friend

Yonael Blackwood

How are you so quick!?
