I thought the FSM reference was hilarious.

Yeah. Same with how most clinical psychopaths and sociopaths don’t become murderers or criminals because the consequences of crime far outweigh any benefits. Essentially it’s not out of empathy or morals (as they don’t have any empathy) but out of logic and pragmatism.

Adam Myers

I suspect it will be the latter. By how Ilthiss was described as particularly young for a chief hunter, most likely Usliff will betray him and ally with Isif, that is my prognosis.

PhycoKrusk

This chapter is precisely why I opposed sending Ilthiss to Aafa: The only battle doctrine that he understands is "collateral damage." The only saving grace is that he is so deranged in his belief in Betterment that he believes he's a better Prophet-Descendant than the Prophet-Descendant and in all likelihood is going to get himself killed, either in the initial combat, or once the enemy is routed and he continues to attack surrendering Kolshians (forcing the Coalition to put him down like a rabid animal). Furthermore, I fully expect Usliff to stab Ilthiss in the back at the first practical opportunity. There are only two ways, we have seen, that someone can become a Chief Hunter: Excessive and fanatic cruelty, or concealed and calculating pragmatism. If the former, then Usliff is either still loyal to Betterment or believes that she's an even better replacement for Giznel than Ilthiss is. If the latter, then even without empathy, she can see which direction the wind is blowing and knows that aligning with Isif and the Coalition is the best path forward. ETA: Everyone, I just realized something: "Isif told me that you’ll back a society with a different despot to Giznel; I’ll answer to no more cowards." Ilthiss thinks that Humanity's problem is with Giznel, and not with Betterment. Probably because he's not actually listening, because I don't believe that Isif said anything of the sort.

Izzet

I would like to see the perspective of someone living on Aafa at this time. What does the propaganda say?
