I love the old farmhouses! The house I grew up in was built in 1906. It was beautiful , but drafty and cold.

You can't really kill a 40 series John Deere. Although, they did lose one in a fire on this same property.

We are thinking the tractor might be at just the wrong angle and water was running off the canopy right onto the starter. It also doesn't really have a drain hole like other starters I have worked on.

lot of times its condensation from sitting, lot of mass in a starter or generator to stay cold when the warm humid air gets at them, then if they don't have any way for it to drain out it just keeps building up. Got an old hein werner hoe with a 4-53 detroit, starter must weigh 100 lbs, and every couple years when we go to use the thing its full of water again.

Great video Wes. Kind of funny of your dad mentioning to rebuild the starter just to get it going. You used to be able to buy all the parts to rebuild starters and I remember buying a three diode tree? To rebuild the GM alternators. They didn't have a battery gauge just an idiot light and it's come on real dim if you're a belt was slipping or you're alternater needing attention. I can imagine you've learned a lot to things from your dad. I can't figure out how water got in the starter. Thanks Wes

Dad has what looks like a Reed 106 pre WW2 vise. I'm jealous. I have the baby 104 model. Still works fine for being over 100 yrs old (1922) tho. Nope saw it better view. Dad has a Rock Island. Still some good stuff
