Chinese "New Cook" Dishes (新手菜)
🕑 Added 2022-02-13 07:14:54 +0000 UTCOk, so I don't know how best to describe this one. We were mulling over the types of dishes that were popular with people new to the kitchen in China. It's a category of food that's not quite the same as "easy dishes" or "dishes that beginner cooks should master in order to get a solid basis". They're dishes that're popular on the website Xiachufang (the Chinese AllRecipes), and were common sites at potlucks and dinners in our 20s here in China.
There's some indulging in nostalgia here, and you might not find these dishes the most complex we've ever done or anything. But they're fun, and plus... the seafood dip from the last recipe in absolute fire.
Anyway, hope you like this one. I know both this video and the last were sort of on the easier side - fear not, we'll get back on brand with next week's video :)

i really loved the tomato egg dish. i used a can of quality diced tomatoes and got a great tomato flavor and fried the eggs with scallion oil. its going on the rotation for sure!

Can you do a video about XO sauce? I bought some a little while ago (like 60g for $26USD!) and tried using it in some dry noodles. It made them taste like old stale shrimp and I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth for days. I’m guessing it’s supposed to be different, and I’ve read more than one story about its origin and what it’s supposed to be like
