๐ฅ Some tips to make your drums sound better ๐
🕑 Added 2025-10-28 14:06:16 +0000 UTC๐Tip 1: Use better material Source โ The secret to great drums is simple: Use great sounds, clean, punchy samples that already sounds close to what you want.
๐๏ธ Tip 2: Leveling โ Before touchingEQ or Compression, make sure every element sits right in the mix. A good balance solves most of mix issues.
๐๏ธ Tip 3: Use minimal eq/compression โ No EQ or Compression will ever fix a bad sample. Focus on subtle moves that enhance what's already good.
๐ฅTip 4: Humanize your groove โ A small timing variation or subtle percussion loop / hat loops to fill up the space and bring your drums to life. Add texture, moving white noise, vinyl crack helps to get more gritty and analog sounding drums. Try using ableton's MPC Swing grooves, the instantly add natural bounce and flow to rigid patterns.
๐Tip 5: Be intentionnal with reverb โ Don't just add reverb to everything, Use it to create space and depth. Try some short rooms for drums, longer plates for textures... Use headphones helps to hear better if your room is not treated properly.
๐ฅBonus tips: Be creative, don't limit yourself, try weird flanger on hi hats, dark reverb on a clap, delays... combo between housy drums and more Progressive house drums... but remember less is more, be focus and trust in yourself !
Note: Great drums are all about feel, not perfection.
