He's also a bit of a hypocrite. The fact that Tau was able to steal food from him and survive kind of proves he's "fit" and not "weak".

I would argue otherwise. Ekevu's perspective of "fit" obviously means that one can capture their own prey. Stealing from someone else is the mark of a scavenger. Also, Tau didn't exactly get away.
