"caught between" Lyric/Poem
🕑 Added 2024-09-05 00:25:35 +0000 UTCHey guys :)
I wanted to share this lyric and/or poem that I wrote a little bit ago with you. I will often write something like this when I'm feeling particularly overwhelmed by a feeling, or by too many than I can process at once. Sometimes I'll go back to it and see if I can turn it into a demo musically, but other times I just want to let that stream-of-consciousness-type piece of writing exist the way it is. Without going into much detail, I am quite a romantic in a lot of ways, and I tend to care very strongly for the people that I have in my life...sometimes to a fault. I wrote this about how that sensation often frightens me, especially when my love feels unbalanced and chaotic in nature.
I hope you enjoy the read, or that it resonates with you :)

caught between
Caught between two
Always caught between one or another
Exhausted ticks follow a cascade of tight breaths
It's a fruitless and perpetual trap
My foot gets caught, then my arm, and then my mouth
I’m so tired of being caught
One hook tangled in my left cheek, the other drinking the burden of blood from my right
Caught between one, two, three
One love, two love
One-sided, two
The pressure like an airlock
Drifting in space, but still breathing fine
Caught between two
Thankful for and petrified of both
The tape wraps the skin lovingly, so smooth
And tears with cruelty, so unforgiving
Will I be forgiven?
Will they be caught between?
Or is it only I,
Meant to be caught between the very many for all eternity
I hope the eternity of betweens will be kind
And most unforgiving

Definitely resinates, I've been going through something like this for about a year. It's nice to feel like I'm not alone in it 🥲

This is simply beautiful, Casey! The flow is just perfect, and it just hits all the spots for what I think you are trying to get across. Reading this feels like you just sat down with a piece of paper and a pen, and just let your heart take over, without actually thinking about the words that come out - at least that's how I do it when I write poetry. Just a great piece, this!

The rhythm in your lines, even just reading them, is really impactful. Whether it's in the same ways as you or not, there is a lot I can relate to in these words in terms of meaning too. I think that's some of the beauty and vulnerability in poetry, and art in general-- sharing your own feelings and meaning, and people finding their own way of relating and seeing themselves in those things. Thank you so much for sharing Casey!!

Thank you so much for sharing! I don't generally read poetry, nor do I fully understand a lot of meanings behind it in general, but I appreciate you giving this to the people here, it's interesting to know what you're thinking especially on a topic like that.
