In this installment of SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED, we go over how the world record holder for Half-Life 2 Any% No Voidclip, peng, beats the game in under 40 minutes. This run is dense and intense. With the myriad of tools you have at your disposal with the Source Engine, peng absolutely breaks this game over his knee with backbreaking movement such as accelerated forward hopping, accelerated back hopping, circle strafing, and much more. In addition to the ridiculous movement, he utilizes several glitches such as saveclipping, quickclipping, and item save glitch to clip through walls or skip portions of levels, and several skips to avoid large portions of chapters.

Just went through the video to look into adding a note about a save delete giving him the gravity gun, but looks like I actually mentioned it in the commentary at right around 1 hour and 40 seconds!

I guess if you have to explain 764 big things in a 1h video it is just to be expected that you skip over a few small things that seem "normal" to everyone who cares about that game/engine

You know what, this is making me realize I never explicitly state that part of loading in at the start of the map with the console (basically what save delete does), you’re given all the weapons you’re supposed to have at that point in the game.

So you get all the weapons with a savedelete? I am surprised it doesnt get used in the first few levels to speed things up+

You can spot it out visually by the HUD fill with weapons on the right after a save delete. I do think it warrants a note now that you bring it up.

Ah I believe it’s when he save deletes very late in the run. I’ll look into adding a note first thing Monday!

oooookay I guess I'm just stupid, but I dont understand one thing. At minute 54 you say "becvause he doesnt have the gravity gun..." and I thought "wtf? sure I didnt see the dog chapter!" and jumped back to hear you say "he disrespects her and goes right ot the ravenholm tunnel" and I understood that the handing over of the gravity gun was skipped. Totally freaked me out btw! And then when he enters the citadel you just mention him using the gravity gun to pick up the scanner. I jumped back and forth throu the video but couldnt get any explanation. Please point me to it I feel like an idiot :(
