Speedrun Explained 55 (Update 2); Speedrun Explained 56 (Update 1)
🕑 Added 2023-11-06 16:47:39 +0000 UTCHey all! Hope that the start of the week is treating you right. Wanted to post a quick update on the two videos that are nearest in production and mention one other thing!
The video that's the focus of production right now is the Scriptless speedrun of Half-Life (#55). When I updated you on this video exactly a month ago, I had just started writing the script. The script for the video ended up being around 10k words long, and I started filming, recording, and editing the video last week. As of this moment, I have around the first 17 minutes of the video completed, with the final length likely going to be somewhere around 40-45 minutes long. I'm hoping that I'm able to complete a draft of the video to send the runner sometime this week, but it'll be tight on timing for that and will likely be getting wrapped up next week. This all means that the video should likely be up on Patreon by the end of next week, if not the start of the following week. I'm getting a flu and covid shot today so I might be out of commission for recording tomorrow depending on how I feel, which would for sure push the draft into next week. The video itself is coming along super nicely, but MAN, is it another relentlessly paced video similar to how the Tony Hawk's Underground video was. I feel like this one has a good blend of fast paced explanations and goofiness, so I'm really looking forward to putting a cap on it and sharing it with you all.
The other main video that's in the works is the New Game speedrun of Starfield (#56). This is a run I'm doing myself and I currently have a PB of 33:48, and I'm hoping I can push that down to below 33 minutes by the time I wrap on the Half-Life video and begin working on recording commentary for it. I've been streaming runs of it regularly, and I'll likely be streaming for a long period tomorrow if I feel too sick to record commentary. While I didn't enjoy Starfield too much casually, I actually enjoy the speedrun of it a fair bit! It's far from my favorite run I've ever done, but it is still enjoyable. My chat and I have a good laugh over many things in the speedrun, and I'm looking forward to translating those experiences and jokes into the script for the video once it's time for that.
The last thing I want to touch on is a recent goal that was hit here on Patreon. Patreon removed the Goals feature awhile back but I took the two ongoing goals I had and put them in the Patreon's "About" page. We just hit 400 total Patrons (although back under now but hitting a goal is hitting a goal, even if momentarily), which means we've hit the goal for me to edit and release a video I filmed over two years ago! In the video, I talk about the biggest nitpick I have with Oblivion. I have no clue how long the video will be, or even how good it'll be, as I filmed it unscripted over two years ago. Depending on how it turns out in the edit, I might be inspired to film a bit more for it, but it's impossible to say right now. I'm undecided as to whether or not this video would ever release publicly, but I think that depends on what the final product ends up looking like. As for when this video will be coming out, I'm thinking that I'll try and edit it around the holidays after wrapping up on the Outer Wilds video that's down the pipeline.
That's all for this update though! Hope you've been great and have had a great start to your November.
