Server upgrade
🕑 Added 2024-12-11 02:29:40 +0000 UTCAs many of you have probably noticed already, baraag has been very slow to browse lately. We are experiencing unprecedented spikes in traffic as people try to flee places like twitter for alternative platforms such as bluesky or mastodon and the fediverse. To put it simply, the current setup can no longer keep up. As a temporary measure to buy us time with our current limited resources, I have disabled mobile app access to baraag as well as turn off incoming federation of posts from other servers such as misskey or pawoo.
To get baraag fully functioning and flying fast again, I am in the process of getting our host to provision us a new server to handle the increased demands. With a new dual socket motherboard, below is the upgraded spec we will be moving to:
2x EPYC 64 core (128 cores / 256 threads)
1TB (1028GB) RAM
We are still waiting on some ordered parts to arrive to complete the build but I hope to have the new server up and baraag migrated to it by the end of this week. Please be prepared for downtime that may potentially last a whole day while the server migration occurs. I will try my best to make a public announcement at least 24 hours before it happens.
