As it was his birthday and also the day he would awaken his Martial Soul, Dugu Chen woke up earlier than usual.
He washed up before going downstairs, only to find that he wasn’t the only one who woke up early today.
His grandfather, father, and mother were all up, gathered in the living room and enjoying a pleasant conversation. Even his little sister was awake, happily playing on their grandfather’s lap.
Dugu Bo was the first to notice him descending the stairs and called out with a wide smile on his face, “Happy Birthday, Chen’er!”
“Happy Birthday, Chen’er!” Dugu Xin and Mo Ying greeted him with warm smiles, enthusiastically wishing him a happy birthday. They were visibly excited for their son’s special day.
“Thank you, Grandpa, Father, Mother.” Dugu Chen replied as he joined his family and took a seat beside them. As he took his seat, Dugu Yan quickly climbed off her grandfather’s lap and settled onto her brother’s instead.
“Happy Birthday, Big Brother Chen!” she said cheerfully.
“Aww~! Thank you very much, Yan Yan!” Dugu Chen wrapped his little sister in a tight hug as he replied, causing her to let out happy giggles.
Seeing this scene, Dugu Bo commented with a playful pout on his face, “It seems Yan Yan loves her big brother more than her Grandpa.”
“Of course, she loves her brother the most. Isn’t that right, Yan Yan?” Dugu Chen immediately replied while sticking out his tongue at his grandfather. In response to his question, Dugu Yan nodded rapidly with a sweet smile on her face.
Dugu Xin and Mo Ying couldn’t help but laugh at the playful antics of the grandfather and the grandchildren.
After a while, Dugu Bo turned to his grandson and asked, “So, Chen’er, how are you feeling about today? Excited?”
“Yes, Grandpa!” Dugu Chen replied confidently, “I’ve been preparing for this day for months, and I can’t wait to see what my Martial Soul will be.”
Dugu Chen was truly confident at the moment. The worries that once plagued him a few months ago no longer bothered him in the slightest. After all, he knew that if he didn’t have Soul Power, he wouldn’t have any Spiritual Power as well.

Dugu Bo’s expression turned more serious at that moment as he addressed the family, “Chen’er’s awakening will be conducted by me and not at Spirit Hall. Closing his eyes, Dugu Chen focused inwardly and raised his right hand. Suddenly, a burst of golden light erupted from his right hand, and a small black creature materialized, landing gracefully on the ground. The creature surveyed its surroundings with bright, curious eyes for a few moments before scampering up onto Dugu Chen’s shoulder, affectionately nuzzling his cheek.
The adults were stunned upon seeing this. On one hand, the creature resembled neither the Jade Phosphor Serpent nor the Gold Patterned Cobra, indicating that Dugu Chen’s Martial Soul had mutated. On the other hand, none of them had ever seen any creature that looked anything like Dugu Chen’s Martial Soul.
The creature was small, round, and furry with a long, black, beak-like nose. Its body was covered in sleek black fur, with a soft, shiny texture, and its belly was a light, almost silver-gray color. Its large, curious eyes were a deep shade of blue, giving it an endearing, mischievous look. The creature also had tiny paws that felt like they could be used to dig and burrow, and a tail that curls slightly at the end.
More importantly, the creature also seemed to have a consciousness of its own.
Dugu Chen was equally astonished as he recognized the creature immediately. It was a Niffler, a magical beast from the world of Harry Potter. Instinctively, he also gained knowledge about its name and abilities.
