Interesting! I think that is correct broadly speaking, but Russia does provide around half the natural gas to places like Germany and other European countries.

I think it’s important also to remember that Russia is a bit of a paper tiger itself. I mean - Canada’s GDP is larger than that of Russia. Russia’s not even one of the largest four economies in Europe! And all the demographic and economic trends are quite bleak for the Russian state. So I don’t know how long Russia would be able to (or want to) maintain a purely oppositional path to the western alliance, even with direct support from China.
