I see now why compressing two sounds together will transfer the quality of the louder sound to the quieter one. If a compressor is a waveshaper with an envelope attached, and a waveshaper is a translation table, then the sound which is the loudest will be shaping the signal the most. This is the glue effect that people talk about, and this also means that using distortion will also have a similar effect.

Bitwig automatically routes your midi to the audio devices in the chain. Unless they don't have a midi-thru, the midi signal will keep going throughout the chain.

it's great to see the subtleties of distortion and how delicately waveshaping thresholds can go from harmonics to fubar ... this is helpful even for seasoned producers as you really have to dial into things to get the sweet spot

I am absolutely loving these. Is it possible to get your notes as a download as well? Or perhaps future tutorials could feature some text on the screen? Having your points be encapsulated/branded as concepts with proper titles would go a long way for some of the less experienced members I imagine. A list of sources or keywords to search for a deeper look outside of the Vision Recordings Patreon would be great. Knowing where YOU go to research would be an invaluable inclusion. Thanks again for the amazing tutorials. how is your lfotool audio-responsive? i'm using ableton and it doesn't respond to audio if i set it to "ENV", i need to trigger it with midi.

enjoyed this one a lot i usually try to avoid eq on simple drum sounds to keep the phase punchy, but distorting it again makes it totally work. will play around with that a lot.
