Phoebe is one of those amazing song writers out there who makes me feel like I'm reading a book. She also has this song called Funeral which is my favorite. There's a depth in here song lyrics and I think that she's very talented. Thank you for appreciating this album.

Elliot smith also lived in the famous Los Feliz Snow White cottages in Los Angeles. That’s what Phoebe is referencing in punisher when she says “the house where you lived with Snow White”

I’d also like to note Graceland too is about Julien Baker’s (a member of boygenius) struggle with mental health and the love Phoebe has for Julien. Both Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker do backing vocals at the end during the “whatever she wants” bit.

Thank you for this reaction. I don’t normally comment but Phoebe is my favorite artist of all time. I’ve seen her live now 5 times and every single time was as magical as the last. Despite only having two solo albums out she has a lot of other music to listen to. You guys would love boygenius. Their debut album won Grammies and their EP is unbelievable. She also has an album out with Conor Oberst who is actually the male vocals you hear in the background of Halloween! A lot of her work is inspired by Elliot Smith and her song punisher is actually speaking directly to him and her love for him. You mentioned a lot of her lyrics are very random but it’s cool she has an exact meaning for most of them. In “ICU” the line “i hate your mom i hate it when she opens her mouth it’s amazing to me how much you can say when you don’t know what you’re talking about” is a direct reference to a run in she had with one of her ex’s mothers where they argued about Donald trump in a grocery store. Also in garden song when she says “the doctor put her hands over my liver she told me my resentments getting smaller” she said is from when she went to a nutritionist in LA who actually said those words to her as crazy as they sound. I think that’s what makes her music sound so genuine and raw is she truly writes from real experiences she lived.

been waiting for this since you first heard her on the Red TV album. Her music is unique and different from anything I've heard recently. I 100 percent recommend checking out her first album and the boygenius ep and record. pheobe also has a song called Waiting Room that was part of a project with many different artists. It is a masterpiece and you should give it a listen when you do Stranger in the Alps since came out around the same time. 🫶🏼

So glad you did this album, can't wait to see you react to Stranger in the Alps. I HAVE to recommend Mitski as a female artist that will change your life. She has very different sounds but the lyrics and vocal performance is always amazing. For a more pop-y upbeat album try Laurel Hell. An earlier album, Puberty 2 is grittier, more rock focused. Every album is amazing, it's hard to pick. 😅 On the song Halloween the voice you're hearing is Connor Oberst from one of my favorite musical projects of all time, Bright Eyes. Him and Phoebe have a project together called Better Oblivion Community Center. (If you ever wanna do Bright Eyes my suggestions are the album The People's Key if you want something pop-y, upbeat, and psychedelic. 🍄 ✨ The most well known album is probably I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, it's folksy. LIFTED is more avant-garde. They all ruin me emotionally, I'm too biased because Bright Eyes is my favorite of all time. 😅)

also note on the boygenuis record it’s at the same level of artistry as this album all 3 julien lucy and pheobe have outstanding albums but together it’s just wow. the record won 3 grammys this year and was nominated in the big categories of album of the year and song of the year for not strong enough youse should 100% check it out :)!!
