Just for context: Max Martin and Taylor had already worked together on his previous albums like Red with We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, 22, I Knew You Were Trouble and in 1989 with songs like Blank Space, Style, Shake it Off, Bad Blood, Wildest Dreams, Woonderland and New Romantics. So this was definitely not the first time the two worked together

The reputation stadium tour was so epic. It was the first time I got to see Taylor live and it was everything. The concert movie got removed from Netflix but hopefully it’ll pop up on another streaming service soon so you guys can watch

As a swiftie who watched her disappear and got slapped in the face with ready for it when she came back this album will always hold a special place in my heart bc it WAS super personal. I’m glad yall recognize how personal it was despite and BECAUSE of the production choices. Rep is fun bc it’s the most linear story line of all her albums. The songs are pretty much in chronological order about how she felt at the beginning of the album (are you ready for it?) about the writing of the album AND her personal life, and then ends with where she is at the end of making the album (at peace, accepting, in love). Also she was very inspired by game of thrones during this time! The album is sort of divided into two “sides” (more literally on the vinyl) with the first half being vengeance (anger, anxiety) and the second half being love (friendship, intimacy, etc) (two sides of the same coin-that of war). The video for look what you made me do even has a throne similar to the one from GoT. The videos from this era are INSANE and I highly recommend! Also Ed Sheeran’s big breakout song was called A Team so it’s funny that she made him sing “wanna be your a team” (also you should 100% do an Ed Sheeran-he raps all the time! Divide is my favorite, but he did all the operations: +, x, •/•, - and I bet yall would love his collaborations album. He has a ton of influential British rappers on it as well as other fun features!) This album came out with her poem “Why She Disappeared” which she used as a spoken word transition during the rep tour (which you should 100% watch!!) and gives you even greater insight into how she was feeling during the writing of this album.
