A Bronze And His Rider

B'son moved out further into the corridor, out of the way of the rest of the bronze riders that were leaving the interior of the queen's quarters. His mind was slightly fogged over with the last heat of the rut, when he had been entwined with his bronze so closely that he hadn't been able to tell where he began and Corsath's ended. It had all been in a rush of heat and need, jumbled together as he had gloried in the rush of the wings beneath broad bronze wings and the sight of the glowing gold queen that had been darting high above them. His cheeks were red as he avoided a few looks of the rest of the riders who made their way to the kitchens or to their respective weyrs. It was always a touch embarrassing to be around them after a mating flight, mostly due to the fact they were all roused and still ready.
"Only one can catch the queen." B'son murmured as he stepped into the bowl and tilted his head up to see Corsath arrowing down toward him.
I had hoped it would be me. Tiamith is not so fast as I am, but he is clever. The bronze dropped his eyes, still flecked and whirling with an edge of red scattering around the edges.
"As are you, my fine fellow." B'son murmured affectionately while the triangle shaped head lowered far enough for him to scrub his fingers along one of the eye ridges, making his beast hum softly in pleasure. "Come on, bathing in the lake will cool both our moods."
There are small lakes in the High Reaches... Corsath trailed off hopefully before proffering a foreleg to his rider.
B'son let out a soft laugh as he stepped onto the limb and swung up between the last two neck ridges, not bothering with gathering his harness. He had always believed that his bronze was one of the brightest out of all Ista Weyr, despite being a touch smaller than the rest of them, he was swift and canny. He had his own strong preferences and suggestions, despite having been told from the time he was a weyrling that dragons tended to be more complacent in their though processes. He knew he was biased, but it mattered little, they were evenly match and had been from the day their eyes had first met. He had known when he felt the brush of the bronze's mind against his own that they would be together forever, their personalities so closely in tune that he often wondered where one of them started and the other began.
As Corsath went aloft he tightened his legs along the soft velvety neck, both of their eyes sliding towards the horizon where two shapes were still maintaining their descent in wild turns and twists. Eloth had been well and truly caught, somewhere below their riders were twined together enjoying one another. It wasn't surprising, after all, Tiya had always been drawn to G'rane, but it still grated against him that they had missed their chance a queen. He gave his head a slight shake, trying to draw his thoughts away from the heated thoughts of his bronze before leaning forward. A cold dip in the lake would sooth them both, make them forget their frustrations and clear their minds enough to be able to have an amiable dinner with the rest of the riders. Right now, the idea of being around them made his skin crawl. He was too on edge, the last bit of desire was flowing through him and taunting him with the idea of what he could possibly have.
"Take us between, we both need out of here." He pulled his jacked tight around his chest as Corsath circled the Weyr and straightened out with a beat of his broad wings before the chill of between wrapped around them both.
It was a relief to have it there, the shock of cold making his system cool as he lost all feeling of the world around him. They had missed her...this time.

The lake was cold and pure, cold enough that B'son had winced at diving into the waters to scrub his dragon. He didn't have the brushes he typically kept for scrubbing off the great beast, but sand worked just as well. Corsath had plunged deep into the cold waters over and over, his thoughts turbulent still despite being attended by his rider. It made it harder for B'son's own emotions to calm down when he was feeling the edge of heat pressing against his mind. Corsath had only flown two greens in the past, and each one was vividly imprinted on his memories in a way that made it difficult to break the loop between them.
The bronze had been especially proud of the second, a lovely little green whose rider had been a bare slip of a blonde haired girl. She had been ardent and eager in his arms as he had felt Corsath catch her dragon, their smooth hide entwining together, tails coiling in the moment of passion. Veria had been nearly sweet enough to take as a weyrmate if they hadn't been housed in different Weyrs, certainly he kept in touch with her. Corsath was even loosely attached to Serth, but distance made it hard to hope it would ever be anything more than a wild fling. And the bronze was of an age that he should rightly be finding a mate in one of the queens, to sire future clutches and settle down in a proper role.
And I will. Someday. Corsath interrupted his thoughts as B'son lathered oil along one of the spread wings. But there are few queens that do not have bronzes, and of those, fewer still in our weyr.
"We don't have to simply remain in our weyr, Corsath." He replied and ran the soft cloth down the bronze hide, letting it soak in the sweet scented oils. It was always a soothing scent, calling to mind his days as a weyrling and caring for Corsath when they hadn't a worry in the world. "And there are plenty of greens."
Yes. But I do not wish a green. Corsath shifted on his body and there was a sense of frustration rippling over the thoughts. I should have had her. She was mine to take.
"The next time." B'son replied fervently and leaned into his strokes, moving down along the haunches. "You should practice more with the greens, at least then you will be able to come up with some clever moves to outfly the rest."
But I do not wish a green. He responded stubbornly and turned his head back towards his rider. The more I want it, the closer I will come to getting it. Is this not true?
B'son blinked a bit in surprise at the question, it was an abnormally complex question for a dragon to ask, but his bronze was watching him. The eyes still were shaded red at the edges with need, the blue and green blending together and roiling in the multi-faceted gaze. The emotions coming from the dragon were shifting, lust and need, frustration and determination that made him feel a tightening in his stomach that he had become all too familiar with in recent months. How many queens had they tried to catch? Six? Seven? They had begun to even go to other Weyrs whenever there was an open flight.
"I have faith in you, Corsath, you're twice as clever as any of the bronzes here." He answered with determination, pushing his hands down along the haunches while his bronze shifted. "When you find a queen worthy of you no other bronze will stop you."
Corsath thrummed in pleasure at his words and pressed into the attention while shifting onto one side. The polishing strokes of the cloth roamed along the powerful haunches and all the way down to the feet. The talons extended out for the attention as B'son reinforced those thoughts as he worked. When a queen rose that Corsath really wanted he had no doubt the bronze would ensnare her. It would be the sort of flight that made the Weyr stop and watch as they danced through the skies, he could only hope that the dragon's rider was someone that he was drawn to. He pushed the thought away dismissively, if there was one thing he had learned it was that his own desires came second to that of his bronze. A dragon reflected their rider and a rider reflected their dragon, any female that Corsath found worthy would be one with a fine example of a rider for himself.
Perhaps it was the fact he was busy trying to reinforce his belief that Corsath would find a queen worthy to catch that he didn't notice what was happening, or perhaps it was so unexpected that his mind didn't compute it. He began to oil along the thick bronze tail, running over the ridges when he realized that the vent that was tucked neatly beneath the haunches was open and the shaft was pushed out. He had seen his beast's girth in the past, there was no getting away from the fact that their dragons were living creatures with natural urges that needed relieved. The dark length was pushed entirely out, curling along the inner thighs in a glistening line that spread the darker hide of the vent open wide to wrap around the base. He shifted his eyes away and kept working along the tail, gathering up the oil to spread over the ridges without lingering on what he was seeing.
Corsath was still worked up, despite the bath, his body was responding to the cheated rush of heat and need that had poured over him the moment Eloth had begun to blood her kill. Normally a dragon would calm down after a bit of a cool off period, but most dragons spent much of their time with the numerous greens that were available. His bronze seemed to be trying to hold himself back, some strange notion he had gotten to make him more eager to catch a queen. It was an odd idea, especially coming from the notoriously present minded dragons, but that meant he had been pent up for the better part of the Turn.
B'son was polishing the forked tail as he felt the pressure coming off his dragon, the heat that was normally reserved for the rut was still there. It was just under the surface, a tension that had been riding him since he had stumbled out of the queen's weyr. It wasn't the burning overwhelming joining that he experienced when his bronze began to blood his kills, but it certainly wasn't normal. Corsath shifted, the movement drawing his eyes up as the drake stretched out and turned his eyes back towards his rider. The flecks of red whirling through the multi-facted eyes grew a bit wider.
Do you wish to go to High Reaches Weyr? Serth says her rider has just come in from riding sweep. Corsath offered, blinking his eyes slowly while B'son straightened up and frowned slightly.
"Worried about me?" He asked and gave the tail a slight pat. "Do you want to take another cold swim? It might help both of us."
No, it did not help the first time. Corsath's movements drew B'son's eyes down the haunches.
The bronze rider let out a soft sigh and moved up along the great beast's side. He meant to go towards the head that was turned towards him, but his eyes were fixated on the length jutting out. Extended out it showed the unique smooth curve that made it vaguely S shaped with the narrow tapered tip moving down all the way to the broadest point of the base.
