From there we proceed into a discussion of how capitalism killed Christianity but never removed the need for religious belief. This leads into a deliberation on how capitalism promotes addictions as a way to offer people a fake feeling of transcendence.

I would recommend The History of the Bolshevik Party by Stalin before tacklin the Carr works on this subject.

That was brilliant and I've never heard or read that piece about Marx and the "opium of the masses". That's all I'd heard not that full context that was enlightening Cheers

On an unrelated note to this episode, which I enjoyed very much, I just finished ten days that shook the world and I was looking for another book on the October revolution and was thinking of getting the E. H. Carr three volume series. Would you recommend it or suggest another book? thank you!
