Afterword - Building Reality : Addiction

It all started when I asked Teann from Gromet's Plaza what I could do to help the site. I was told that there was a high demand for the latex section, so one weekend, I sat down and threw a story together.
It might surprise you, but initially, Building Reality was utterly different than what it turned out to be. It was supposed to be a story of three girls who built a rubber room in the basement and locked themselves in without the possibility of getting out. They were supposed to be isolated in this dark red rubber room for several weeks, forced to do various tasks if they didn't want to get shocked in the neck by their collar.
Only one person programmed the AI that oversaw the whole experience, and the three friends were forced to do things they never agreed on, like having sex with each other even though they were only friends.
That was the concept.
It was the first time I attempted to write a story that was not narrated by one of the characters. This 3rd person point of view came with immense challenges, particularly for someone inexperienced like me.
One of them was to switch from another character to the other continually. It turned into a massive nightmare, and I failed lamentably. I abandoned the story.
A bit later, I decided to attempt it again, but only with two girls. I created April, who had the finance to make such a project work and April, who had the manual skill to make the construction of the room plausible. I made them a couple too. April wanted to try something, Tracy needed to love her enough to accept it.
Building Reality as we know it was born. It was an escalation story type. There was no plot; it was just a bombardment of increasingly restrictive fetish. I knew where I was going with this, and I knew that with this kind of story, you ended up hitting a wall because you can't go further in the escalation. If you lock the victim in a rubber box forever and damage her brain enough, then it's over. There is nothing else you can do unless you introduce new blood and repeat the same thing all over again.
Two things. Rubber fetishists will never be satisfied, and I didn't want to go down the path of repeating myself. (I'm a rubber fan, so I'm pointing at myself a little bit too)
The messages poured in… Even though it was clear that I didn't want to continue that story, the story's fans were relentlessly asking for a sequel. I opened the dialogue with the fans, and most of them told me not to do it, but the others really pushed me hard to write it and provided me with tons of ideas.
I don't work well with suggestions. Ideas have to come from me else I don't feel inspired. But in this case, those discussions gave me enough food for thoughts to consider writing a sequel. Not only that, I decided to commit to two different endings: one dark and one good. I decided to tackle the dark one first because I knew it was the most difficult.
Tracy was already at her limits. April had pushed her very hard to the point where she would spend a lot of time isolated. Since it was a dark story, I needed to destroy Tracy's life to the point where she was a limp piece of rubber lying down on a bed, nothing less.
It worked, she was drugged and incapacitated, but I was blocked. I needed a good 3000 words more, but Tracy was out of commission. It took me weeks to find a way to make it worse for her.
April was the only hope. She was already half-insane, so I decided to use that and give her an addiction. I sent her to the shrink to work on her problems, and use that to return Tracy to life and show how much mental damage had been done.
Then April relapsed and returned Tracy to her rubber toy state, shattering all hope she had to have a normal life again. It was probably the darkest I could go short of killing her, which I had no desire to do.
Now, the good ending will be way more joyful and probably easier because I like writing happy, kinky characters that have a natural consensuality. I haven't started it yet, but when I feel ready for it, I will probably draft it all over a weekend. It will be the last time I will write about Building Reality.
I hope this insight was interesting. I'm honest, I didn't enjoy writing it, but I'm very proud that I've attempted it and I'm very happy my fans pushed me through this exercise. :)

Ah, thanks. I felt I didn't have much to write about in my previous ones. This time around I decided to do it properly and it felt good. :) the goal is really to provide you with an understanding of my brain.
I like darkness too, I'm a big fan for the isolation box, it was fun to write about it some more. There will be plenty of it in the good ending sequel. :) love it.

I like the story, part of me likes the darkness in it. That said there is something about this story that made it feel "extra grim". Now with your afterword I can place that into context a bit better. Thanks for persevering with it. I feel you performed a marvelous job especially considering your reluctance with the domain.
After reading this story, I understand how difficult to write it was. Especially now after reading this post. I am a bigger fan of other stories. Look forward to reading light ending.
