Okay, nerd out here., with the king of weapons and the groin, armpit and throat, they are actually correct. In the time the story is set, a spear and shield was considered the best weapon.... for one on one free flowing combat with little armour. But then the vital points were right, for about 2000 years later when people are in full plate armour, as they have the least protection due to articulation points.
