🕑 Added 2021-04-08 16:33:07 +0000 UTCA Tool review from FAA Graduate in Residence featured on The FAA Collective Patreon
Have you ever stood in front of a sculpture and wondered how different textures are achieved? How masses are applied, and creases refined?
In this video, Graduate in Residence at The Florence Academy of Art, Jana Büttner, displays her arsenal of favorite sculpting tools (drawing, loop and rake to name a few..), and gives useful insight about each type of tool and the different effects one can achieve, as well as cleaning and care tips, and even customization advice.
Some tools are store-bought, others are artisan made, or even handmade and customized by Jana herself!
Her favorite drawing tools can be purchased at Tiranti here: www.tiranti.co.uk
Her favorite modeling tools are handmade by wood artist Luigi Cavolata, from Rome. Visit his instagram page @luigi_cav.art for any inquiries and purchasing information.
We hope you enjoy this review!
More about Jana:
Jana Büttner is a German/Czech sculptress, and currently a graduate in residence at The Florence Academy of Art.
'My goal is to provoke emotions and encourage empathy in the viewer. The viewer should be engaged by the work, so they can identify themselves within it. The three-dimensionality and the space that sculptures occupy can create a natural presence. This has the potential to allow for an emotional connection with the viewer. Figurative works in particular can speak to us precisely because we can recognize ourselves in it. That is why I like to work with live models.'
Her work is represented in private collections in Dubai, Germany, London, Austria, Czech.
