Need some inspiration to get started?
Check out our video featuring Nicholas Chaundy, Principal Instructor at The Florence Academy of Art, talking about the process behind his latest self portrait.

Self portraits first came into fashion in the Early Renaissance, and have been part of the artist’s oeuvre ever since the mid-15th century.
At The Florence Academy of Art painting a self portrait is an important project for third year students! During their careers graduates and faculty regularly draw, paint, and sculpt their own portraits to keep practicing and testing their craft in a variety of mediums with themselves as the model.
There are several portraits featured on The Florence Academy of Art online gallery to use as inspiration, visit https://www.florenceacademyofart.com/student_gallery/student-gallery/ and https://www.florenceacademyofart.com/alumni-gallery-new/ for the FAA’s Student and Alumni Galleries!
We look forward to see what you create, good luck and “Buon lavoro!”
