“Meh, wasn’t really meant to be insulted trust me. If I wanted to be insulting you would know.” Ashley let out lightly as she looked over at Narcissa with some amusement.
I mean she was not lying. Snooty was a compliment in comparison to some of the other things I have heard Ashley calling others. That girl kind of had a one track mine in that regard.
Narcissa looked over at me for a moment before letting out a light huff.
“I’ll treat it as a ringing endorsement then.* Narcissa let out lightly as she all but rolled her eyes at Ashley’s position.
“Probably the closest thing Ashley has to a compliment so you could.* I spoke out with a small grin on my face.
“Love you to, you big idiot,” Ashley spoke out as she looked over at me with a roll of her eyes.
Narcissa looked at our interactions with a frown.
“I still think you are stepping into a relationship far too quickly. Ashley looks alright but you can never judge a book by its cover.” Narcissa let out quickly while looking at me with out looking at Ashley. I let out a wince as this was the one topic that would drag Ashley out of a happy mood. I could already see that being the case as she narrowed her eyes at Narcissa.
I interfered as Narcissa was a friend and I did not want Ashley to switch to stabbing mode when we just made progress.
“I have known Ashley longer than you think Narcissa. Magic can lead to such strange things. As for not judging a book by its cover that is rather hard for someone like Ashley. Her book is likely pitch black while it screamed murder at people while the book tried to eat its reader.” I explained my position on this to Narcissa again.
Ashley still had her eyes narrowed at Narcissa but she appeared to calm down. I figured Narcissa had more tact than to bring this up again let alone in front of Ashley but I guess I was wrong.
Narcissa was looking at Ashley with some measure of disappointment. Maybe she did have that tact but she was trying to get a rise out of Ashley.
Why would Narcissa do something like that?
“Well it’s been nice meeting Prince’s Friend but we got stuff to do. Murders to plan and potions for the big guy to design.” Ashley shot out as she started to drag me away from my friend.
Most times I would say she was overreacting but Narcissa did poke fun at our relationship for some strange reason.
“Thanks for the info Narcissa. If you have any contracts or shared positions with the Prince family I suggest cutting them. You will not like what I am about to do to them” I mutter out darkly and Narcissa just nods politely while latching her attention onto Ashley.
“Do come again when you have more free time,” Narcissa spoke out slowly as she watched Ashley drag me away. I was a little irritated that I was being dragged like this but the whole room stunk of tension. An unspoken line was crossed.
So it was probably for the best that she did drag me away from this situation.
“Mimpsy.” Ashley spoke out as she dragged me a little further from Narcissa. We were still in the room as Ashley could not really drag me anywhere else but we had some distance from Narcissa. Who was watching us with laser focus.
The small elf popped up looking at Ashley and then back at me for a moment. I was surprised that the little guy came when she called. Bubbles was the one that took care of Ashley after all but I guess that guy was treating Ashley as his future Mistress. I did not really have an issue with that but it was nice to know this.
“Miss Graves needs something from Mimpsy?” The little elf stuttered out intimidated by Ashley’s eyes locking on him. I was kind of wondering why she called the elf in the first place.
“We are leaving can you take the both of us to my home,” Ashley spoke out as she looked back at Narcissa with an odd look on her face, which was returned with a flat look.
Mimpsy paused for a moment looking at me but seeing my lack of a reaction he complied. Ashley let out a huff at the sight but stayed silent. I guess I should give him some credit for not immediately following her orders as he was my elf but at the same time I would not mind if he did.
Ashley usually has my best interests at heart and I was willing to follow her lead in some cases. I felt like she was overreacting a bit here and her jealousy was rearing her head but honestly, this reaction was rather tame in comparison to the murder threats and death glares I was used to.
It was not like Ashley had a bad reason for reacting like this. She was pretty friendly and cordial to Narcissa but Narcissa was odd. She prodded our relationship right in front of Ashley. Of course, Ashley was upset about that.
The Elf popped away with us to Ashley’s home. I was a little surprised that the elf could come and go in the Black home as he pleased but maybe Narcissa allowed it. Then again her family was arrogant purebloods so they might not care about the house elves even if the Black family proved themselves to be paranoid in everything else.
Right, a family that cursed every other chair was probably not going to hold back on protecting their secrets from lesser creatures.
Once we arrived in Ashley's home she stopped dragging me and let out a huff of annoyance. Hearing that Mimpsy took one last look at me before retreating. It was a good choice the guy could read the room well at least.
I wrapped my arms around Ashley to reassure her of my affection.
“Sorry about that Ash. Narcissa is just worried about me. She knows Lily broke me for a while and from her perspective I jumped right into another relationship. Wants she gets to know you she will drop all of this.” I softly spoke out to my upset girlfriend.
Ashley let out a snort before rolling her eyes.
“That’s not why she poked at our relationship.” Ashley let out seriously as she looked over at me to measure my response. Seeing the look on my face she let out another snort.
My mind tried to connect what other reason Narcissa would have for pulling something like this off but I got nothing. I knew she had more tact than she showed so her prodding Ashley was odd to me. But I put her motives behind a caring attitude but Ashley clearly did not see it that way.
“What do you mean?” I asked with some confusion. Ashley clearly had an idea about what was going on. It was an odd world in which I had to really on Ashley’s perspective.
“You don’t see it?” She shot back with a raised eyebrow and a mocking smile on her face. She was annoyed about something but she was drawing some amusement from this so at least not everything was lost.
“Honestly, I’m usually a lot more perspective about things like this but I can’t get a read on her right now. I know she cares about me but her attitude does seem a bit much coming from her.” I spoke out with a sigh as I tried to figure Narcissa out. I really usually have good readings the only time I get blindsided is in cases of affection.
I freeze for a moment.
“Really? You have no idea? Looks like you figured something out.” She questioned out with a teasing smile on her face and an amused glint in her eyes. She was having fun being the one in the know right now.
I was too busy piecing together conversations and moments I spent with Narcissa to think about her words right now.
“It can’t be that right?” I shot out absentmindedly. In retrospect, her actions and the way she was acting would certainly fit the narrative that she liked me but that was ridiculous.
This was Narcissa Black. A girl of the out most pedigree in our society. She was born and raised as a picture-perfect noble. She would not even bother talking to others she found lesser. She had the money, power, skills, and influence to have anyone she wanted. Someone like that would not fall for Severus Snape.
Not me but Severus Snape. Narcissa has known the past version of me. She knew the hopeless fool that I was. She knew every little secret that he held. The girl had seen me at my very worst. When I was a simpering fool he followed along the girl I loved throwing everything I had for a speck of her attention.
The notion that she would like me was ridiculous but it fit what was happening before me.
I try to view my situation from a different perspective. Severus Snape was a prodigy in potions with some potential. He had a future but that did not warrant Narcissa paying attention to him. Lucius was already making plays for me after all. Yet, she went out of her way to forge connections with me. She spent her time researching subjects she had no interest in to connect with me better. She offered me advice about my life and tried to push me to be better than I was. She had my best interest in mind.
As unlikely as it sounds Severus Snape might have managed to snag a piece of her heart. I knew the appeal of watching someone talk animatedly about the things they loved. Rias had shown me that when she showed off her little figures and Narcissa made a habit of getting me to talk exactly like that. When things were calm my dry wit and Narcissa's smug nature meshed well together and I honestly enjoyed her company.
Was it so hard to think that she enjoyed it as well? So why was she pushing for me to approach Lily all those ages ago? She could have cut Lily out of my life pretty easily. I was not naive enough to say that if Narcissa wanted to have me wrapped around her finger that it would have been difficult.
Severus Snape may have been in love with Lily Evans but their relationship was a ticking time bomb. We had proven that already. If Narcissa wanted she could have engineered any number of things to drive us apart. Then when I felt like the world was closing in she could have offered herself as a haven and I would have fallen just as hard as I did for Ashely.
Yet, she did not do those things. Instead, she pushed me to go for what I wanted while holding back on her own feelings. Why was that? I thought it over for a moment before gritting my teeth.
The Black Family. I may have had potential but I was a filthy half-breed that was a useless scum in their eyes. Narcissa did not have the freedom to pursue what she wanted. She told me that all those years ago in potions class. She was destined to marry for power and for the advancement of her family’s cause. She was a puppet on a string and she would not fight it because of fear or maybe a resignation to fate.
So instead of binding me to her, she hoped that Lily would be good for me. That all the warning signs she saw in Lily were wrong. That I would have my happy ending even when she could not. She let go of her own feelings because she could not offer me anything. Not as I was but now she could. I had shown my hand and I was drawing attention. I was no longer just that half-breed and I had the power to allow her to do what she wished.
The pieces were in play and everything seemed to be all she ever wanted. Lily broke my heart and I was spiraling. She tried her best to be there and support me through the coming storm. Perhaps she was moments away from having me fall for her then I went on that mission.
Then I came back to a different person. Not quite as lost, not quite as frail, not quite as broken, but ultimately in love with someone that was not her.
Ashley looked over at me as I pieced together everything. With a small mocking smile on her face.
“It’s not too hard to see it when you think about it.” She spoke out as she rolled her eyes at the stunned look in her eyes.
“She likes me.” I shoot out in resignation. I felt dejected and empty for a bit. I cared for Narcissa I really did but this….this was something else.
“She does, she probably wants to bone you so hard it’s not even funny,” Ashley spoke out lightly before rolling her eyes with a small laugh.
“Okay, maybe it’s a little funny.” Ashley shot out again with a small smile on her face and a glint of amusement in her eyes.
I looked away from her and bit my lip. I would have to deal with this. I would have to shoot her down. I would have broken her heart. That notion hurt but I can’t give her what she wants.
“I’ll take care of it, Ash.” I let out idly as the thought felt like a weight that was crushing me. Ashley looked at my dejected and deflated state and let out a sigh.
“Don’t worry about it prince. I’m a big girl I can handle your friend pinning after you.” She spoke out softly shocking me as I looked over at her.
“You don’t have to force yourself here Ashley. This is my issue I can take care of it.” I spoke out quickly. I did not want to bring Ashley even more pain. She had already let Rias in our lives because she did not want to hurt the red head but Narcissa was different. Narcissa was my friend, not hers.
Allowing Narcissa to keep her feelings and shutting down on this was not what Ashley would want.
“But you don’t want to. You said it yourself you care for this girl. She was there when everything was falling apart. It looks like she has liked you for a long time and she was going to be broken up about this. More importantly, this will hurt you a lot to take care of it.” Ashley spoke out lightly as she locked gazes with me. I flinch away and look away from her bright knowing eyes.
“I can still deal with this Ashley. There is no need to hurt yourself further for my sake.” I spoke out in pain. Having that conversation with Narcissa was going to be difficult but putting even more burdens on Ashley’s shoulders was not an option..
“You can’t decide that for me Prince.” She spoke out softly with a piercing stare and I felt myself flinch from her gaze.
“You are deciding this for me why can’t I do the same.” I shoot back a little bitter. Ashley rolls her eyes before walking towards me and poking my chest with he finger and staring at me.
“Cause you are being dumb. So I have to step up on this. It’s not like this is the end of the world. You are mine prince and I know nothing will take you from me.” Ashley let out with some conviction that I was not used to seeing from her. I open my mouth to say something else but she kisses me for a moment stopping my words. She then leans back with a glint in her eyes.
“Besides ms snooty might be interesting to play with. She wants what I got? Well, then she better come begging on her knees if she wants a piece of this.” Ashley let out with amusement flashing in her eyes as she gropes my cock.
