Animation Is Hard, Part 1/2000
🕑 Added 2020-02-08 02:26:27 +0000 UTCHere’s a very rough work in progress of the very first Japes animation! This is the first animation I’ve done in almost 30 years, (since 5 seconds of Darkwing Duck done on Disney Animation Studio on a pre-Pentium-era PC) and it turns out, I need to relearn a few things!
Really, the only parts I’ve animated here are her face and hands. I’m mostly happy with the facial animation, except I think I need to smooth out her eyebrow movement a bit, and maybe slow her tongue movement as she licks her lips. The hands I’m happy with.
Everything else is place-holder. Next, I’ll do arms and torso, then hair, then boobs last. Hopefully by then I’ll be more practiced with circular movement, and squash-an-stretch.
I needed to re-learn that in animation, circles and arcs are essential for movement— never straight lines. The first attempt at her moving towards the dick looked like she was riding an escalator.
Another thing is if you want truly life-like animation, I’ve gotta animate almost one joint or moving point at a time. Doing this, you really appreciate why Disney had separate animators just for Ariel’s hair.
Anyway, I’ll keep uploading updates. The total animation will be longer, but that part’s easy because I can just loop the beginning and end. The transition between jerking and sucking is the most crucial part, given her head turning and expression changes.
