You race towards Helen’s ranch house as fast as your feet and the terrain will allow. After navigating a muddy ditch that separates your hiding place from the road (and nearly separates you from a shoe), you race across its gravely path as you glance around for traffic.
There is none. You’re on your own, for better or worse.
Running up Helen’s drive, you pause to peruse the tools in the back of Juan’s pickup, before grabbing a mean-looking farrier’s hammer with a pointy backside claw. You imagine it’s for digging debris out of nooks and crannies between a horse’s hooves. You’re not sure how you’re going to use it though. You’re still speculating about it as you race through the front door—
You catch Juan with his pants down. Literally. His bare moon ass waxes and wanes against the tiled hallway floor in a series of flesh-jiggling fits. It takes a moment to realize that 5’2” Helen Mcintosh is pinned beneath him, her jeans married with his at the ankles. She isn’t moving. At least not of her own volition. The way her splayed arms rock back and forth to Juan’s moan-punctuated thrusts makes the mass of humanity look a little like a Hindu God.
Juan is so focused on his revenge that he doesn't notice you. You tip-toe closer. The only sound (apart from Juan's sweaty grunts) is the clack of his belt buckle against the tile. CLACK--CLACK--CLACK. It counts the cadence of his thrusts like a heartbeat.
With a violent swing, you bury the hammer's claw in the back of Juan's head. He collapses on Helen, engulfing her petite figure as the belt buckle heartbeat explodes in a final arrhythmic clatter.
Before the blood pouring from Juan's wound can grow into a clue-capturing puddle, you kneel beside the bodies and place two fingers against Helen's right wrist. There is no pulse.
Now what?
