Pebble Shrine
🕑 Added 2023-01-28 21:22:36 +0000 UTCA coastal shrine this goma has brought pebbles and stones too. The pebbles are brought to life through spells, prayers, and rituals imbued into the wax. From their heads bloom new shapes from the wax, which are echoed in the shapes of the clouds.
I really love beach stones, I particularly love the dark kind with white nodes of quartz in them. I love the way that beach stones, agates, etc are the most beautiful when wet in that film of water left in the receding tide. For this reason, I like throwing agates back into ocean when I find them, because they'll never be as beautiful if I take them home than they are right there. I do however still collect quite a few pebbles, and like to imagine what they might be if they came to life somehow and embodied the personalities in their looks. Or what they would be if they were their own world and that I could enter it, etc etc etc.
Another place I love are cliffs and beach rocks that are difficult and potentially hazardous to reach. There is a quality to them that is very clearly not meant for humans to be there, and the feeling this inspires is both terrifying and divine. I feel this same way about abandoned buildings on the verge of collapse, and sometimes maintenance and other areas on buildings that people aren't supposed to go. There is a feeling almost as if only the gods should be living there, or else some great tragedy might be about to happen if you linger too long.
So those those were some of the ideas and feelings I had behind this particular piece.

I always enjoy how peaceful and quiet the scenes you draw are. The sense of serenity is conveyed so well in your compositions. It makes me wish for a world with less busywork, conflict, and anxiety, and more curiousity, wonder, and imagination.
