I can totally understand why people would have that response 2016 was a really emotional time for a lot of us. I think this is going to be a consistent issue I'll run into later in the show. Thats probably where a lot of the criticism came from. The idealism of the creators and the fact that it's a show for kids versus the harsher reality of the topics they try to cover. I feel like I could go either way on liking what the episode is trying to communicate on divisive topics depending on my mood at the time I'm watching the episode lol

I remember when Gem Harvest first aired, a lot of people haaaated it. But it was also late 2016 so uh....people weren't exactly feeling sympathetic or charitable to their racist uncles at that time, nor looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with their conservative relatives, and they weren't interested in a story that showed mending those ties as an easy, positive thing. Like no, actually, that shit obviously can't be fixed with a nice conversation. It's a lot easier to watch nowadays but boy oh boy what bad timing.
