Flying Buttress

There are some good ideas in there and, as others have put it; the art and music teams did great work. But yeah - the story is a mess. So much reliance on infodumps up top to deliver rather lacklustre conclusions. Probably the worst the game has been at dragging things out as well - it feels like random nonsense designed to pass the time until the next patch where we receive even more random nonsense

Rick Benson

As someone whose dog ripped up the book before getting the chance to read it, I appreciate the work in putting this together. Hopefully it helps to make a bit more sense of the Shadowlands? I felt it was one of the best starts to an expansion, but quickly devolved as the story seemed a mile wide and an inch deep. Really just a big mistake to have us go there, unless they have a better explanation going forward.

I have spent most of my life tiptoeing around the feelings and egos of people that most definitely would not think twice before criticising / insulting me. I do not like Steve Danuser. And I do not owe the man anything either. I think it is the height of arrogance to step into the lead narrative position of a franchise as big and beloved as warcraft and retcon fundamental lore. There I said it lol

No disrespect to the guy (I mean, maybe some), but I truly do believe the "self insert" nonsense with Nathanos. And I really think they had good intentions going into this expansion, but it really had to be done by a better writer. There's just too much coincidence for the Jailer himself to be a respectable villain. Make it a cosmic force threatening the shadowlands. Make it a mystery that we players have to solve. Make it an external threat that we actually get to "see" in the game. We still have no idea what the "first ones" really even were. Kel'Thuzad's return was a load of shit, and they even retconned his character from WC3 for it. It never should have been the MCU. The MCU is a fun adventure, even one I'll share with my kids one day, but it's way overplayed, overdone and not always great in terms of writing. The mandatory "laugh now" moments are hard to ignore after awhile. All of that to make a fan favorite character (Sylvanas) get bamboozled in the end. Someone so calculated and cunning that she Forced the entire 4th war. And her story is "Well that wasn't me, oopsie, I guess I didn't know what was going on" in the end. She's trying to convince Anduin to join a cause she herself doesn't even believe in.

Cheers mate. Yeah - I always felt weird about Steve Danuser boldly claiming that this was the end of Phase 1. As if Legion hadn't already been a much more natural end to Phase 1 and they really should've been spending the time since cooking up something new. There were a couple of times where it really felt like he was straight-up trying to copy the MCU without bothering to earn those moments. The Sigils. The 'people arriving through portals' moment at the end of Dragonflight. I'm surprised no one outright said "On your left" during that cutscene!

Dawi Man

Hope you're doing well my man. I think you've earned some time to recharge and relax a little, the book is almost done. I think it's also hard when the subject material you're putting into the video also couldn't care less either. Shadowlands has, to this day, continued to open more lore problems into the story because they wanted this to be the "End of phase 1" of WoW. Dragonflight onwards is supposed to be "phase 2" I guess. Just remember that we all appreciate the work you're putting into all of this, and that your own mental health is important as well. What you've created so far is nothing short of an accomplishment, and it's certainly gotten more people involved in the lore of the game in one way or another. Watching the Tides of Darkness supercut made me appreciate the "old world" alot more from a kid that started with Warcraft 3.
