Is it easy for you to enjoy life? Do you know what exactly brings you pleasure and joy? What actions or what words, what food or what people? Can you feel joy without people around you? Does this emotion only make sense when there is someone to share it with?
I never thought about this topic. All my life I knew what I liked to do, who I liked to spend time with, what to eat for dinner... I never had to look - I had all the answers)
Yesterday my friend caught an existential crisis. We all go through it, each in our own time. Thoughts about the meaning of being, about death, about realization...we had a long long talk on a balcony on this topic.
When I was going through this difficult period - my answer was pleasure. Pleasure is the reason why I am here, why I will be there, why I will do this or that. And there is nothing more stupid than living life without pleasure and enjoyment. Why then is all this for?
So my reference point is the feeling of pleasure. If I like it, then I'm on the right track.
How surprised I was when my friend couldn't say what she likes. The only state in which she feels satisfied and inspired is when she's in love. We still tried to find at least something that was independent of anyone, but we never found it.
A day passed, I thought a lot about our conversation - and I realized that this is not only true for her. In fact, all people can feel joy only in love. And its not about sexual love .. its about love in general. Because delicious ice cream, a rainbow in the sky, swimming at sunrise, dancing or taking a bubble bath - these are small physical things that don't really have any meaning - people fill them with meaning. The ice cream is delicious, especially vanila with fresh strawberry on a top , because it was my dad who brought it home in the evening after work and we ate it together while watching a TV show. Swimming at sunrise is a pure pleasure - because it was my mom who taught me to swim without swimwear in the sea when there is no one around and the water is smooth, without the slightest wave, feels like fresh milk....And so I can list and explain all of my "joys". It didn't just become a "joy"...someone was a part of it)
Therefore, to explore your pleasures, you need people. You can explore yourself, but will it be so bright and memorable?)

Youth doesn't always realize that being in love isn't the only joy we can experience in life. Pleasure can appear in many forms. We can experience joy, happiness and pleasure by ourselves, alone, in solitude, by choosing so. But life is richer when we can celebrate our own, as well as others, joy. Thoughtful post, marvelous portraits, Julia.
